Saw some Alabama football team members come into my work yesterday...

I work at Jimmy John's on University and was working last night.

Coach Steele came in and ordered our Vegetarian sandwich. He asked if we still had fresh tomatoes (which are on recall if y'all haven't heard) and we said no. He said that the salmonella wouldn't affect him one bit.

Terrence Cody and another football player (don't know name) came in later for dinner. Cody ordered our biggest sandwich, the Gargantuan, and literally inhaled it, which really wasn't that surprising. He ordered another for take out and the other dude also ordered a Gargantuan. This is the second time I've seen Cody in person and honestly, I know he's absolutely huge, but it still shocks me when I see how big he really is.

Coach Cignetti typically comes in at least once a week in the evening, and always orders take out b/c he "has to go back to work".

I thought he was a fullback, no wait he was going to be moved to LB when did he open a sandwich shop. Can he do that and be on scholarship?

Well, I don't know if the NCAA has a ruling on this, as it may be considered an "extra benefit" that he's going to class, on scholarship, and running his own business, hopefully they won't find out.

I see him about every other day on the way to class and I feel the exact same way CT. His size is just incredible. I have yet to see him and not do a double take because it looks like a small car has sprouted legs and is walking around campus. I can't wait to see what the guy looks like in pads. I feel sorry for the pitiful human who has to attempt to block him every down.

I'm going to feel sorry for any desk or chair he'll be sitting on in class! His size is incredible and my co-worker and I were just in disbelief as to how big he really is, and he doesn't have any pads on! I wonder if the equipment people going to have to order special sized pants and other equipment stuff to outfit Andre and Cody.

Used to know a HSAA who was about 425 . You could recognize him driving down the road because his poor little Chevette had such a heavy lean to the the drivers side and with shot shocks , it would scrape up sparks from the road at times :D

When we signed Cody, he clocked in at 6-5 385. Whereas, D.J. Fluker comes on the scene at a svelte 6-7 325. When these two sit around the house, they SIT AROUND the house. Whew.

Actually, I don't think there's anything prohibiting this. NCAA rules might prohibit a student/athlete from receiving benefits from boosters or other persons associated with the University or the athletic program, but that's not happening here. There's nothing that says athletes have to be dirt poor, or that they can't use their own entrepreneurship to assist in their finances. It's just like having a job off-campus, except he's acting as his own employer. What could possibly be wrong with employing yourself?

Well, actually, the NCAA DOES limit the earning potential of scholarship players. There is a limit on the amount a player can earn, which is the amount defined by their university as "incidental expenses" for the school year.

The thinking behind the limit is that, if the athlete is doing anything which is trading on his name and image, he's no longer an amateur. I've never looked into it, so I don't know about, say, a successful stock day trader...

Edit: I just remembered an illustrative case. Several years ago, the place kicker for U. Col. wanted to ski professionally and the NCAA said "no."

Also, Greg Anthony with UNLV comes to mind. He caught alot of NCAA flack for his t-shirt company while he played for the Running Rebels.

Maybe, since we are wanting TC to drop 30# or so you should recommend he not buy the extra sandwich next time and do your part in his training.
