A firefighter who hails from Chicagoland and is currently battling wildfires in Colorado spent a recent water break helping out an aviary friend that needed some assistance. The sister of 31-year-old Alec Jordan, who's originally from Spring Grove, sent WGN-TV a video of her brother removing a cactus needle from the beak of a hummingbird that had landed near him during a water break. Jordan is battling the ongoing Aspen Acres fire with the Golden Eagles Hotshots, who drop into wildfires to remove trees and brush — and, at least in one instance, a cactus needle from a hummingbird's beak.

I went where the jobs were.
I've made a killing in contract work and gotten a lot of time off the last four years.
A coworker in the section next to mine had a patient follow her into the lab and steal her purse - and car - all on video camera in my hospital in Chicago. Reporting this, of course, makes me a racist, but between the union and the crime, I left Chicago so fast once a job opened the I (yes) got pulled over by a cop in Missouri on my way back to Texas.
He let me off with a warning.

The only good thing is l made $176K for mostly surfing the internet.
Hated the union, hated the weather, hated the dirty hospital, dirty streets, the raging wind out of nowhere, just a grimy and disgusting overall place. Michigan Avenue and Lakeshore Drive don’t make up for the fact the place sucks.
Here’s another one: they can’t work on the loop or the interstates in the winter because it’s too damn cold and the weather is too bad, so sure enough just as spring thaw hits in April, they close a couple of lanes on the interstate thar stacks the traffic. They have 270 degree turns on off roads.
Oh and here’s another one: idiots will stop their car right in the middle of the street and go into a store, just leave the car sitting there. Or walk up on the curb and get a smoke with their buddy.
Chicago - the personal arrogance of Boston (but more urban accent), the horrendous traffic of Atlanta, the weather of winter Scotland, and the cost of Switzerland.
I gave it a chance.
I couldn’t wait to get out of there.
I left two months early since my contract was not binding. I just had to give them two weeks notice.
(Remember the day Oklahoma beat us? I was in a hotel room in Wisconsin that day and downloaded a program to rework my résumé because I wasn’t having much success. All of a sudden, I was getting calls left and right for interviews further up the chain).
Oh and here’s where that Irish woman’s cow burned the whole city to the ground. I’m sure it improved the joint.

Not sure if you are addressing your question to me or not - but since I started the thread - I'm happy to provide my thoughts on the subject.
Chicago is the 3rd largest city in the US ranked by population. 3rd only to NYC and LA. By that metric alone - it qualifies for it's own thread.
I mean if the USA was a solar system.....Chicago would be it's own planet!
Our forum here concerns itself mostly with politics and religion - and certainly Chicago's history is full of both subjects and continues to be every day.
OK so why the thread?
I remember when we first had "Say something good about" threads in the Football forum. Maybe someone can tell me who the originator was. I can't recall. But talk about an absolutely brilliant concept....this was one if there ever was one!
Here we have an opponent - and with that a degree of animosity, eh? But what if we set the animosity aside for a moment? Is there anything we can say about this opponent's city and/or state that is positive...or of interest?
Absolutely there is and by doing so we are saying we are able to look at the big picture of things.
Not only that...what a fantastic platform to use now which ultimately achieves what many of us come here for. Broadening our intellectual horizons. Learning new things. Telling the world "Hey - there's a LOT going on and we want to know about it!"
So for anyone interested in doing so - I would love to hear more of your thoughts about this metropolis. Absolutely let's not forget the politics......but there's more that deserves some print, is there not? And what better vehicle than here in the political forum. To show the world we welcome the opportunity to broaden our horizons.
BTW, I also dated a girl from Chicago - oh boy she was (and still is) something else!
Another ex GF was from Illinois, but a small town - nothing like "The Windy City". Pretty special lady in her own right.
The mid west......there's a lot there....worthy of some space here too, IMHO!
We don't talk enough about what the hell Kevin's dad did for a living. He had that huge house, could afford to send 15 people on a holiday trip to Paris, then could afford to send everyone back on short notice to get back to Kevin. I want Kevin's dad's paycheck or at least get adopted by someone with that kind of cash flow.
Edit and a side note: We never talk about the other missing kid. Watch the movie again and you will notice the head counter counts herself twice. Where is the other missing person and why don't they care?

I had a great time once hopping on ride share bikes and riding point to point with one of my best friends in Chicago. There was a 30 minute time limit to the bikes, so we kept parking the bikes and taking a new one out over and over.
And, they have a great soup restaurants in the winter.

Second best was one day we saw a lot of Vikings jerseys in town and realized there was a game at Soldier Field. So, we walked over to the ticket office and asked if they had any extra tickets. They had a pair of tickets in the first row in the upper deck on the 50 yard line for $250, so we scooped them up and watched a pretty good game, but unfortunately the Bears lost. The home crowd just wasn't into the game for some reason, which I think truly hurt their chances.
