Say something good about Portland!

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

It's not the NG, though they're getting the press. It's the entire task force, which includes the DOJ, FBI, ATF, DEA, US Marshals, Homeland Security Investigations, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee. They've also sent in a huge concentration of THP and TBI agents.

In two weeks, 43 missing children have been found (!) along with over 800 arrests.

Say what you want - it's easy to post from afar about somewhere you don't live - but the people I know (people who voted for Biden, Trump, Harris, you name it) are seeing far less violence already.
It's almost like you're saying less criminals in circulation = less crime and more safety. I don't see the connection.

Seriously, my wife's friend in Portland would sure like to have some better policing (wherever it comes from) to help lessen the vandalism and racist graffiti at her shop. This garbage costs her money in repairs and drives away customers, not to mention the stress of living in such an environment.

Portland, like many cities, attracts all kinds of people. All cities have issues with crime, but most have LESS crime per capita than rural areas. It's just that the crime in the cities is actually covered by the local media and there is a lot MORE crime than in the sticks simply because there are a lot more people.

Just to compare Alabama versus Portland, see below. Maybe the National Guard should be deployed to Alabama instead of Portland?

Violent crime
  • Alabama:
Ranks #18 in the United States for violent crime and is 38% higher than the national average.
  • Portland:
Has a violent crime rate of 720 per 100,000 people, ranking it at #72 in a recent analysis.
Or Montgomery vs. Portland:

Crime Index - Montgomery Metro Area, AL, Portland Metro Area, OR have crime indexes above the national average.

Crime Index represents the risk of crime occurring in a area and is measured against national index of 100. If the Crime Index of an area is above 100 the crime in that area is relatively higher when compared to US. If the Crime Index of an area is below 100 the crime in that area is lower when compared to US.
