can not wait until friday night. can't make wed and thur but friday looks like its on. i heard scrimmages last week went pretty good.

ROLL TIDE!!!!

I only caught the last three or four innings of the Friday night scrimmage. There was a good crowd there. I think it is going to be hard to make the cuts to get down to the 35 man roster. The best thing I see out of Fall ball is the experience several players have gotten at playing several positions. Coming out of Fall ball, Brett Booth is probably our best catcher and best third baseman. We probably have better depth at catcher and several folks are improving at 3rd as well. Case Nixon was playing catcher for the Crimson team most of the innnings I saw then Brett caught for Gardeck. Others doing well at catcher are Ladson Montgomery, Charley Waldrep and Ben Moore. A. J. Cole has also been receiving a lot of work at 3rd base during the Fall. Jared Reaves (SS) and Kenny Roberts (2nd) play well together like they have been doing it for years. Jon Kelton was playing 1st and Austin Smith was DH in the innings I saw, so that gives you two good options at 1st. In the past, Jon has also played 2nd well should we need him there. In the outfield you can't do any better than Dugas in center. Hunter Gregory was playing left and Andrew Miller right Friday on the Crimson team. The pitching was really good especially from the freshman and from Adam Windsor, and Josh Rosecrans. Also, the rest of the team is also playing really well so that helps as far as getting ready to play against quality opposition and as far as depth. Hopefully, there will be no injuries. But, in the event there are, I think we will be in a better position as far as depth this year at most every position. Another freshman that looks good as a hitter is Spencer Turnbull. I am sure there are other folks who post that can give you a better assessment, but those are my thoughts.

I can't get into any specifics (because I don't remember any of them), but I've got to say, I was marginally impressed with the pitching we got on Friday. I didn't arrive in time to see the first 3 runs scored by the Crimson team (was walking to the stadium when AJ Cole was announced that inning).

I'm disappointed that this was the only scrimmage I was able to go to, but a couple of observations:

1. Kamplain looked good. His delivery reminds me of Tim Lincecum, kinda twists his body around to get more torque.
2. Gardeck can bring it, but dang, you just never know where it's going to end up. If he can harness that beast, he'll be a good one.

Didn't really notice anybody else because, shame on me, I still haven't learned the new guys' numbers yet. Obviously, while the pitching impressed me, it still doesn't mean anything until they get into some game situations. If they can rise to the occasion though, we'll make some noise in the SECW.
