Have heard this discussed a lot and I am leaning toward the game being about playing for a bye. Just my opinion... But I don't think the committee punishes a Power 4 team for losing its championship game by leaving them out; could affect seeding though.
If that's the case and conference championship games now are only about the winner getting a bye but the loser still in it then it sure takes away a lot of the luster from previous conference championships where the winner went to he playoff while the loser had to settle for a NY6 bowl game.

Wrong.

UTe would have two losses and their win against us would be the tie breaker to get them in over us.

We need UGA and Vandy to beat them...😎
The tie breaker between multiple teams with the same record without common opponents is conference opponent win percentage, which we would lead in, without some chaos which can affect this volatile measure, such as the result of Arkansas-Missouri breaking an LSU-Alabama tie.

Playing in a conference championship game, particularly with a couple of losses, is REALLY rollin’them bones when it comes to the playoffs.

I'm hoping that Georgia will be on fire after the Ole Miss loss and play out of their minds next Saturday. Plus, the game is at Georgia.

As for Vandy, it depends on which version of Vandy shows up.

weird thing about georgia this year, aside from the second half against us and most of the game against texas, they haven't really looked like much. i don't know if they have it in them to play out of their minds.

Even if BYU loses a game before the big 12 championship game, if they win that game they are in at least a top 4 seed same for Colorado, ACC could have same situation, we just have to win doesn't matter where everyone is ranked if they win their conference

True, but at this point, the ACC is probably only getting one team into the playoff, same for Big 12. Maybe a 1 loss BYU gets in, but I don't know. As for the ACC, Miami losing yesterday almost assuredly means only one ACC team gets in. ND is getting in, and so is probably Boise St. So there are only going to be 6 additional at-large teams. My guess is it's 3 from the SEC and 3 from the Big 10. The Big 10 will probably be Oregon, Ohio St, Indiana and Penn St. with one of those as the conference champ. The SEC is anyone's guess.

The only incentive to playing in the SECCG is to get a bye so I rather take a chance at a 3rd loss in pursuit of a bye. Lord knows the carnage that will take place during the first round.

To some of us, winning the SEC is still a goal.

Whatever happens in the CFP invitational happens, but I want Bama to win another SEC Championship.
I stopped caring about conferences a long time ago, so conference championship games are only important to me if they help Alabama or Ohio State win a national championship. But I understand your sentiment.

Tiebreaker 2 would be a crazy thing to factor in but it would probably leave you with Bama, Georgia, and Tennessee while eliminating everyone else. Alabama probably wins that 3 way tie based on scoring margin. I think that is why with a Georgia win next week, Alabama’s numbers of reaching Atlanta skyrocket.
By contrast I think if Tenn wins and wins out then the SECCG would be Texas (provided they too win out) vs Tenn.

That is to me our safest route to the Playoffs because it doesn’t force us to play.

I hate Tenn and strongly dislike UGA so I’m not sure which result to hope for.

I think as long as we win out and look pretty good doing it then we will be in the playoffs and with just a couple teams ahead of us losing we’d slip into the Top 8 and a home Round 1 game.

So I’m thinking we’d rather not take the risk for playing Tex in the SECCG.

If our two options are the 8/9 game in Tuscaloosa or the SECCG vs Tex then I’ll take the home game please…lol

Yeah, this game is a do or die game for jawja. I fully expect them to play out of their minds...

For Vandy, it's a rivalry game, isn't it?

Anyone heard the status on the UTe qb's injury?

Yeah, we lost our safety margin in Nashville so the SECCG would be an elimination game for us now. Would love to win yet another SECC, especially with the expansion.

As far as NC aspirations, we are probably better served by staying at home and hosting a first round game and consider not being in the SECCG as a first round bye!
