SEC Tiebreaker Rules

To some of us, winning the SEC is still a goal.

Whatever happens in the CFP invitational happens, but I want Bama to win another SEC Championship.

Honestly my hope is Texas to screw up in a game before aTm and Tennessee to beat Georgia. I would love a shot at Tennessee in Atlanta to end their dreams of a magical season.

But I still want to win the SEC. I don’t care if it could potentially knock us out. But for right now… Just win Baby.

Yeah, we lost our safety margin in Nashville so the SECCG would be an elimination game for us now. Would love to win yet another SECC, especially with the expansion.
We don't yet know how the CFP committee will handle conference title game losers - on one hand, they have and additional loss, but on the other, they were one of the top two teams in the conference and lost to the best team in the conference while everyone one else sat at home.

My initial feeling is the CFP committee will not hold conference title game losses against teams unless they get slaughtered.

IMO, it will depend on the records of other teams on the edge. Hard to put in a 3 loss team over a 1 loss team.

I hope you are right, but I just don't see a 3-loss team making it in...

Pate basically quoted the CFP chairman in saying “that they are not punishing a conference championship loser”

He also threw out an interesting scenario… “what if Ohio St beats Oregon, Colorado beats BYU, Boise goes undefeated, and Texas beats Bama”. He made the case that it could result in Alabama traveling to Oregon first round and giving Boise an automatic bye.

I think two loss Colorado would jump a one loss Boise St in that scenario and push them out of a first round bye. A 3 loss Big 12 champ might not jump Boise St.

Does a 3 loss team even deserve an opportunity to play for a national championship? If indeed it becomes apparent that a championship game loss can knock a team out of play contention, is that the death knell for the conference championship game? If that were to occur, would the conference champion simply be determined by conference record?
