I don't peruse the barn boards very often but today someone posted a link over there and after I read it I took a look around for a few minutes. This is one of the funniest, most pitiful things I have ever seen.

Enjoy but prepare to spit whatever you're drinking on your monitor

Tradition is

1. Playing the very first football game in the Deep South
2. Having the Coach for whom the Heisman Trophy was named after coach at your school.
3. Traditions on campus like "Rolling Toomers," and "Tigerwalk"..the first of its kind by a major football power."Tiger Flying" "Wreck Tech" Parade.
4. Having 2 Heisman Trophy winners and 60+ All-Americans.
5. Being in the Top 10 in the country in NFL players.
6. Having the # 10 winning percentage in the country in the last 50 years.
7. The Legend of "War Eagle" And the Poem, "The Deserted Village" that started how we define who we are.
8. Shug Jordan, BO Jackson, Pat Sullivan, Tucker Frederickson, Zeke Smith, Tracy Rocker. all former players and coaches..and all OF YOU..The Auburn Fans now and those who have passed on..You make up a fanbase described by my SEC and ACC friends as loyal, spirited, and almost "Cult-like." A fanbase with the ability to face adversity and never waver in devotion. A attitude, that we will not quit..we will not be deterred from fighting.
9. A losing record to only 2 SEC powers..and with those two teams combined, we only trail by 10 games.
10. That knowledge that no matter WHERE you are in the WORLD, you may hear "WAR EAGLE"..and know that you are instantly around family..
That is tradition. Tradition is much more than winning. It is something that Alabama fans will never understand. They have Alabama football. We have Auburn and everything that Auburn stands for beyond the football field. We have our share of winning as well. But it goes MUCH MUCH deeper for us.
WAR DAMN EAGLE FOREVER

I guess it'll just never sink in to them that tradition isn't something you proclaim for yourself, it's something that has to be EARNED by accomplishments over the years.

WAR DAMN EAGLE FOREVER

Tradition is much more than winning. Hell, losing can be a tradition too.
Especially if you're a Barner.

I'll bet we can all come up with more examples of Barner tradition.
How 'bout romancing the livestock whether it's in a stall or in a cheerleader outfit.

How 'bout "brushing your tooth after each meal".

Or, Picking your feet with a buck knife.

Come on now.....let's keep it going

Other AU traditions

1) Being on probation every decade since the 40's

2) Talking about how great it is to have two players win the Heisman, and how sad it is that Bama has "only" been able to win NC...

3) While AU has kept the series close (sort of), if Bama does not go on probation, then AU may have only won 4 against Bama in the last 15 years, so Bama's lead would almost be 20 games over AU (Bama was 7-3 against AU during the 90's)

4) Greatest AU tradition, wishing that they were like Bama...... :biggrin2

Tradition is
2. Having the Coach for whom the Heisman Trophy was named after coach at your school.
How many schools did Heisman coach for? Oberlin, Buchtel, the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama, Clemson University, Georgia Tech, University of Pennsylvania, Washington and Jefferson University and Rice University. So what do they have the same "tradition" as Aub?

3. Traditions on campus like "Rolling Toomers," and "Tigerwalk"..the first of its kind by a major football power."Tiger Flying" "Wreck Tech" Parade.
Oh great a tradition that includes "rolling". Oh how great thou are! Do you have TP? :biggrin2:

5. Being in the Top 10 in the country in NFL players.
6. Having the # 10 winning percentage in the country in the last 50 years.
I love when fans of teams claim a tradition and it includes the phrase "last 10 years, last 20, last 50 ..." If you have to put a time frame around it. Its not a tradition! And they are # 10 right now in NFL players, but how is that "tradition"? Please...weak!

9. A losing record to only 2 SEC powers..and with those two teams combined, we only trail by 10 games.
And an even tie with Vandy! 19-19-1

10. That knowledge that no matter WHERE you are in the WORLD, you may hear "WAR EAGLE"..and know that you are instantly around family..
That is tradition.
And you'll know there is a TP toting redneck that believes Auburn is the greatest team in the land! Pretty sad the only 3 times (modern era 1936-present AP Poll) your team went undefeated-untied. Two (1957,1993) of them you were on probation, and the last(2004) you got no respect. TRADITION!

Somebody looked in the mirror.......& absolutely fell in love with what they saw!

I guess it'll just never sink in to them that tradition isn't something you proclaim for yourself, it's something that has to be EARNED by accomplishments over the years
Like Tommy Mac said, this is the only kind of "tradition" the barners will ever know!

Self proclaimed Barner tradition...
Pretty much sums it up for au! Sad.

How's this for Awburn Tradition? Their number of SEC Conference titles equals GT who hasn't been in the conference for forty years! It took last years title to tie them! Geez!

I'm still waiting on someone to tell me who Tucker Freerickson, Zeke Smith and Tracy Rocker are, maybe I'm just stupid, but I have NEVER heard those names in my life not even once.
To be fair, Rocker was a heck of a player, but I'm like you as far as the other two are concerned.

Tucker Frederickson was a one time Pro-Bowler for the Giants who had 9 touchdowns in 6 seasons and is not in the top 50 in any statistical categories. Zeke Smith didn'r come up only some guy who is an illustrator came up. Yeah I can certainly see why they would be listed on this Auburn fans list of reasons Auburn has tradition.

New Tradition

Now in our glorious year of 2005 we embark on a tradition of renaming our stadium..Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Hare Dye Stadium, yes War Eagles we can now proclaim the only stadium in the SEC that can double as a Barber College--- Let the chant begin Hare dye! Hare Dye! Hare Dye! My God can you feel the chills on the back of your red neck?
Sorry I got carried away -----RTR
