News Article: selmaborntidefan & Elefantman & other TideFans quoted in IndyStar article today (12/30/25)

OK just got a response. My email and the response:
===========

Good afternoon Gregg,

Saw your article and just want to say I enjoy the Tide Fans forum very much, even though I am a Florida grad and Gator fan. I have been a member there for 14 years with now over 41K posts!

My handle is Bazza.

I post in many of the forums in addition to the football forum.

You may wonder what a Gator is doing on a Bama forum. Mostly it's because I can appreciate the history of the Alabama program over the years and find it both enjoyable and interesting to read the variety of stories and opinions on the subject.

We both recognize when it comes to rivalry there's more than enough butt hurt to go around.

My responsibility is to represent my school with as much class as possible. No, it won't make up for all the clowns that also posts stupid things on social media, but I can at least hold my head high that I took the high road.

The best reason I enjoy Tide Fans though is it's a family friendly site - no cursing allowed. And they run a very tight ship in other areas. My parents were both Navy WW II veterans, so perhaps it's how I was raised - to appreciate things like that.

I should also say I've been a Hoosier fan for many years and was delighted to see their win over Ohio State and for their QB to get the Heisman.

This game is going to be very enjoyable to watch.

Hopefully Florida will get back into the playoffs in the near future.

I just wanted to give Tide Fans a plug.

All the best,
Bazza

You’re a good man, Barry. Thank you for this classy note
Gregg

Worse, he baited to get those quotes.

He was the guy that came here and stated that Georgia was the only good team in the SEC...😎
That is actually the entire Indiana fan base, and I am using the broadest brush I can find because that’s what the entirety truly believe. No way Bama’s pathetic one dimensional offense scores twice against the Hoosiers.

I guess he's trying to get Indiana motivated in some way by using the "no respect" strategy. They had lost 30 in a row to Ohio State so they had enough motivation for that game. Since our players had not made any comments he felt he had to dig into a football forum to find BB material. I'm sure we also could find some disrespectful comments made by Indiana fans about Alabama as well.

This isn't the first time Gregg Doyel got himself in the middle of controversy. He got into some hot water over a comment he made to Caitlin Clark last year at her introductory press conference. He was suspended for 2 weeks and banned from attending their games last season.

Hi Gregg,

If you’re still on Tidefans “creeping” on us (seems based on your history, you’ve got creepy down to science) we’re just “glad you are herrrrrree”.

He just posted 30 minutes ago on that thread that he started here...no doubt looking for more material for another article!

I just find it amusing that a "journalist" (very light use of that term) has to resort to lurking on an opposing fans' message board and call out individual posters so that he can have something about which to write in order to try and motivate his favorite team or arouse that team's fanbase. Is he that desperate for clicks? With even mild journalistic integrity, he should have at least contacted the posters that he cited in his hit piece prior to referencing them and their posts. Contextually, Selma has already discredited much of what Doyel wrote, and kodos to Bazza for his email! Other than continuing to read this discussion to laugh at some of the comments, I will not be reading any more of Doyel's drivel. If his article were printed on paper, I wouldn't use it to line a bird cage!

From 247-

Former Alabama coach Nick Saban was golfing recently when one of his friends offered an opinion about Thursday's Rose Bowl between the Tide and Indiana.

"The guy looks at me and says, 'We should be able to beat Indiana. That should be a win for us,'" Saban recalled Tuesday on the Pat McAfee Show.

Responded Saban to his buddy: "What are you talking about? Indiana has got a really good team."

The friend explained his stance by saying, according to Saban, "I just can't get around my head that it's football. They're really good in basketball, but not in football."

That was the launching point for a broader message Saban wanted to send fans about the No. 1-ranked and undefeated Hoosiers.

"I said, 'Did you watch them beat Ohio State and how physical they played?'" Saban said. "To your point, I think in the outside world, away from Indiana, people still don't have the proper respect for Indiana. I'm not saying that's true for Alabama's football team – I know their coaches have respect and I know the players have respect and I know it's going to be a very, very challenging match-up for them.

I'm just saying from a fan perspective. Fans don't look at the game from a technical perspective like we all do. Indiana is a damn good team and I think on the national level, people don't see them as the good team that they are."

Indiana defeated Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game earlier this month.

"I was so impressed with Indiana's defense against Ohio State," Saban said. "I didn't think they could play as physical as they played, and that could be a problem for Alabama because they struggle to run the ball. Make the game one-dimension for Ty Simpson and that could be an issue.

"Indiana is gonna score some points now. They got too good players with [quarterback Fernando] Mendoza and the receivers they got. Their ability to run the ball. The balance. Curt Cignetti, to me, does a great job. Their team does not beat themselves very often. You gotta beat them, and it's gonna be a challenge, I think."

-They have Nick in on this. Nick, there are a lot of informed fans, Even some coaches in the Bama fanbase. And based on the picks on Gameday vs the top 10% on Tidefans , I will go with Tidefans top 10% . I reference the top 10% because they are the most informed, as are the supposed talent on Gameday!
