Shortest Take-off and Landing

I had never heard of this, but there is a competition yearly in Valdez Alaska to see who can take off and land in the shortest distance.

Last year, the winner was 9 feet 5 inches. Nice headwind helps a bit.

With a real strong headwind, some have landed behind their takeoff point.

That’s not in Alaska just because…… General aviation is the lifeblood of much of Alaska and many of the places can only be reached by STOL aircraft.

I figured. Getting around Alaska is probably tough. Flying is the only way.
I just thought a 9 foot 5 inch takeoff was extraordinary.
ANd sure, these planes are not loaded with passengers and cargo, but still 9 ft 5 in? That's amazing.

Agree. Almost unbelievable. Might take him all of 20 ft. to get off the ground fully loaded.
