Social media is destroying our humanity

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Anti-vaxers, flatearthers, space deniers, literally every conspiracy nut are everywhere because of social media.

Read the comments section after anyone dies. The anti-vax crowd will have post after post alluding to the death being from "the jab", "clot shot" or whatever idiot name the give it.

Read any comments section about NASA or any other space agency or news about space and the flatearthers and space is fake guys will post some of their idiocy.

Facebook and other social media has gotten these lunatics to connect with each other and in some rare cases have convince even dumber people to agree with them.

it was a lot better when they only got a 4-page hand-typed newsletter once a quarter

I'm forcing my 10-year old son to read physical, tangible books (not even Kindle). He is struggling beyond belief. He sees the size of the book and freaks out. He can't sit still when reading either, and he's NEVER like that otherwise. Screen withdrawals, man.

Good for you! You're son will appreciate it one day.

I love the look and feel of actual books. I have a library full of them! I can't do kindle. I have to have a (preferably hardcover) book in my hands. My routine in the evening, after dealing with the nonsense that is government bureaucracy, is to get a book and settle in my favorite chair on the lanai and listen to the waterfall in the garden. Eases the tension from the day in no time. :)

Said library (or half of it). It will always be a work in progress. :)

Don't get me started on the fake health memes and posts. It can be very dangerous!

And you can tie it back to the decline of the media by having headlines that say person X "died suddenly". These people don't even read the article that says how person X "died suddenly ", they only go straight to the comments to make a sparky comment.

Is that the Hardy Boys in the upper middle? I'm pretty sure I recognize the blue binding!

Yessir! Those books were the first thing I remember buying with my own money. About 10 years old. I "discovered" them again in a long-forgotten box that was in my mom's house. I didn't know what to do with these "kid" books, but then I decided why not add them to what I have in the library? They are certainly out of place, but they are a rare, good memory I have from my youth. So, Frank, Joe, Chet, and Biff are there with Jack Ryan, Dirk Pitt, Mitch Rapp, Scott Harvath, Gabriel Allon, and the rest - just slightly less violent. :)

Awesome! I've revisited a number of my old faves as a kid. Some still work for adults and some are dreadfully bad. I was fortunate to sneak into my brother's room and slowly nab his collection rather than working for my own in an early moment of childhood socialism... ;)

We also had Mom's original Nancy Drew, The Story Of series, The Bobsey Twins, and the We Were There Books... read them all many years ago.

I saw a video of a guy trying to convince flat earthers by physically taking them to Anteractica in the summer and leaving them there for 24 hours. If flat earth theory was correct, the sun should set and rise in the morning. The sun never set and most of the flat earthers said to themselves, :"Huh, maybe we're wrong." But there were some who took the observed data and got busy trying to figure out how flat earth could explain the sun never setting.

Or the flat earther who built his own homemade rocket so that he could go high enough to see the flatness... Except that he crashed and died... Although he was probably more using the flat earth conspiracy for the notoriety he could gain.

Sadly (for him) that is a self-correcting problem.

I remember that guy. Gravity is often not very forgiving.

Yeah, it was called The Final Experiment. He invited flatearthers and some accepted, but most declined. The guy paid for it with his money. It was a free trip for the flatearthers. We all know why they turned it down. Some of the flatearthers are not flatearthers at all. They are cons and grifters. They make money off stupid people. One guy, David Weiss aka Flatearth Dave, is for sure a liar and grifter. He preached for years that a 24 hour sun was impossible, and you couldn't legally go to Antarctica. He is scum. Since the final experiment, he has desperately tried to find a way to explain it to his followers. Examples are 2 suns, CGI, holograms, not really Antarctica, a movie studio, and edited video despite one video clearly being a live stream.

The 2 that did accept, have since changed their minds and agree with earth being a globe.

The scammers are another thing born out of social media. These scum are the worst of the worst. It is one thing to be an uninformed, ignorant person, but a special kind of scumbag to take advantage of the uninformed and ignorant.

The old adage was sex sells, well social media realized something sells better than sex, that’s rage, and it’s cultivated through their algorithms . I’m probably in the minority, but social media is such a dangerous place for young minds, I think it should be banned for anyone under 18.
And the really scary thing is what we don’t see readily that’s on the dark web.
