Special Counsel appointed for Hunter Biden

I just saw that, but I have to say I'm skeptical of the idea that the DOJ is in any way interested in a good-faith investigation. If anything, it's a stalling tactic to either run out the clock on the statute of limitations or to keep everything quiet during an election year. After all, they can't comment on open investigations (or so they say.) Lots of ass-covering gonna be going on here.

the wingnut brigade in the house seems pretty out of sorts about this and seems to think that biden is doing this to stop their investigation.

I don’t buy that nonsense. The truth is probably that the pressure has ramped up with more and more accusations being made and some evidence to support a further investigation being real the DOJ is backed into a corner and has to further investigate.

buy it or not, it's happening

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., the chair of the House Oversight Committee who's been investigating the Biden family's business dealings, blasted Weiss's appointment as "part of the Justice Department's efforts to attempt a Biden family coverup."

"The Biden Justice Department is trying to stonewall congressional oversight as we have presented evidence to the American people about the Biden family’s corruption," Comer said.

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, also ripped the appointment despite previously calling for a special counsel.

“David Weiss can’t be trusted and this is just a new way to whitewash the Biden family’s corruption. Weiss has already signed off on a sweetheart plea deal that was so awful and unfair that a federal judge rejected it," said his spokesperson, Russell Dye.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., echoed Comer and Jordan, tweeting, "This action by Biden’s DOJ cannot be used to obstruct congressional investigations or whitewash the Biden family corruption. If Weiss negotiated the sweetheart deal that couldn’t get approved, how can he be trusted as a Special Counsel?"

They can keep investigating as well just like the January 6th committee did. No need to see a boogeyman behind every tree unless you have evidence. If the special counsel ignores evidence the House uncovers then that would be a problem, but wait until you see how the process goes.

I was wondering if this was the same guy. No wonder House Reps are so ornery today.

I sincerely hope this is investigated fully and appropriately and if Joe Biden did anything wrong he is held accountable

See how hard this is Trumpers?
If you want to break the spell Trump has them under, it starts with restoring credibility to a system that currently no one really believes is fair or impartial. How do you do that? I'll be damned if I know. If I did, I'd already be doing it. Fact is: cult45 does not believe this is a real investigation and do not believe that Joe will be held accountable even if something is found. The only way to change their minds is to prove them wrong and the only way to do that is to show them that the system works. Idiotic platitudes and demagoguery won't accomplish this; this is what got them where they are in the first place. Show it to them and stop trying to convince them with arguments. You might as well be arguing with a fence post.

Yes, Trumpers have always proven themselves to be easily convinced by reason and facts.

First, the Republicans complained that Garland didn't appoint Weiss as a special counsel. Now, they are complaining that he did.
The ONLY thing I think matters to the GOP is that the name Biden is under investigation. They don't care a hill of beans if there's anything to this investigation in the end. The GOP just wants to paint the other team as crooks so they can whataboutism away from the crook-in-chief they can't seem to shed.

You do realize that most Reps feel this way about Dems, right? Maybe they're both wrong (I doubt it) or maybe they're both right (most probable) but the idea that one is embracing gestapo tactics while the other tries like hell to remain pure and virtuous is laugh-out-loud ridiculous.

Lol. This entire thing is just a big GOP wet dream. The charges are what? He didn’t pay 1.5 mil in taxes, but has since paid them. AND he checked a wrong box in a gun purchase application? Which is hilarious because half the MAGA crew would never fill out such form and just go do a “private purchase” at a gun show.

Again this seems like a giant waste of tax payer money for a whole lot of nothing. That said, Jon is correct. If there is any proof Joe broke a law we should throw him in jail. Right MAGA crew?
