^^^ The exact response the writer would expect from an AU fan. Salty about a home loss or not, it does not change the facts about Pearl. The trail of wrongdoings and probations in Pearl's wake are well documented and easy to locate. The sad part is that his current employer, and it's fanbase, just don't care. The saddest part of all, however, is that Pearl is a good coach that didn't/doesn't need to stoop to that level - but can't seem to help himself. Character counts unless, as the writer stated, you can win games -in which case little else matters. End rant...

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Pearl has messed up and has 3 major offenses in his jacket, sure, but he really only has one competitive advantage infraction to his name.

His first major offense boils down to breaking the omerta of the profession. He ratted out the Illini over skeevy recruiting practices and is still paying for that to this day to a degree. A lot of coaches still refuse to work with him as a result.

He paid hard for his second major offense, but that wasn't so much the actual competitive advantage gained from hosting a recruit at a BBQ, but from lying to the NCAA about it. That's where the show cause came from.

The third was the Person stuff, but he has plausible deniability there. Person was lining his own pockets via referring players to a financial adviser. Hell ya'll are currently on probation for the same offense courtesy of Kobie Baker.

Both Baker and his head coach are gone. And the former HC didn’t lawyer up against his own employer / university, refusing to discuss the matter.

In my working days, I was a banker. If I had hired my own lawyer, refusing to cooperate with an internal investigation, I wouldn’t have made it out of the conversation, let alone to lunchtime, without being fired. My pension would have been revoked, and my 401k sequestered into a special area reserved for employees terminated for wrongdoing.

If Pearl will lie to the NCAA, and stonewall his own employer, are we really to believe that those are his only two offenses? It would stretch credulity beyond the snapping point to think there aren’t myriad other things that he’s skated on.

As an earlier poster said, Pearl is a good coach, and didn’t have to do all this stuff to be successful. But he did do it (and probably a lot more that just hasn’t seen light), and has established himself as a documented liar and repeat offender.

Only three MAJOR offenses... I guess that's fairly decent, in the Barn's view.

Somebody is salty his team couldn't beat AU at home lol.
Hmmm, so basically you can't argue that everything he said was accurate, it's just that you have a problem with the motive for his column...?

Okayyyyyy, well the NTYF obligates you to do that I guess...

Pearl has left every program he ever coached at in hot water. I said it when Auburn hired Pearl and I still say it now, it's only of matter of time before it happens to them.
It already happened to them and the NCAA did not have the balls to go after him. Person was a fall guy for him. You can spin it anyway you want to but Pearl knew what was going on. He probably had Person doing it for him because he knew if he got caught he would be history. Person is such a barn guy that he would take the fall and I bet you he is getting paid in some way by the barn or one of its boosters to keep quiet.

It wasn't a recruiting or competitive advantage thing at all. People often get that confused because it was in the same report with all the Lamont Evans/ADIDAS stuff.

At worst you could get him for failure to monitor, but Pearl wasn't implicated at all. It was all Chuck's show, which is why he was indicted by the DOJ.

Couldn't really care less. He was worth the risk. We were a dumpster fire, and when have a dumpster fire you don't care if it's Cabernet or natty light putting it out lol.
And that is the problem with many athletic programs...they put winning at the top and integrity at the bottom. Time has not been kind to people who lack integrity...sooner or later it all catches up to them.

If you don't see the problem with that statement that says a lot. Also a problem with the direction college sports has been going more and more the last 20 years.

If the Newton saga showed anything it’s that the good ole boys down there don’t let their loose lips sink their ship.

Neither was a backyard BBQ. Why did he lie about it...?

That and previous history indicates a pattern.
