After expanding the south endzone, the field could be lowered to allow for more seats. Increase capacity to over 110,000 by making BDS like an arena football field, with seats right on the sidelines ...... eh, maybe that's a little excessive.;)

You know I have actually thought about the same thing. I would just like to see the seats closer to the field, and the line of sight would be better since the seats would be even higher than the field.

Looks like they're just doing a feasability study for the south end zone so best case 2009 before it could ever open.

Lowering the field isn't a viable option. You'd have to tear down both ends of the stadium and rebuilt them further back from the field or at a steeper slope.

In my unprofessional opinion, we can still get another upper deck like the North Endzone has, we just can't have the grand entrance way that the North side has. Plus the city of Tuscaloosa is going to expand Bryant Ave. so maybe the school is waiting to see what happens there.

An idea is if the Bryant Ave. expansion takes up too much space on the South side, then maybe a bridge/arches can be constructed over the street in order to help have some entrance deal on the South Endzone.

I agree....

Have any of you guys seen Tiger Stadium? :)

They have dormitories built into the side of the damn thing!

First and foremost something has to be done about that ugly cemetary! It takes away from the beauty of the stadium and gives rival schools so much ammunition to fire at our team whenever we publish new aerial photographs!

It is quirk that really gets to me.... (I hate that cemetary) it is taking up so much valuable real estate and most of the family members and relatives of those that are buried there....well, they are buried somewhere else by now! :)

They could build another Tutwiler or a parking deck that would help with traffic congestion. The stadium expansion would be open to more options if that damn cemetary were gone!

I have never understood why the University has allowed that nasty cemetary to sit in the middle of our campus (no offense to anyone buried there) but the campus is an uglier place with that eyesore!

Nobody wants to associate our stadium and our football team with death! :)

The University has been bying up property on the strip like rabid dogs, but the one eyesore that has been so pervasive for years and a true embarrassment to our stadium and our school is that cemetary. Regardless of who owns that land (be it the city, or private) the University could take control of that property and make our campus/stadium atmosphere a better place.

Not to metion: that cemetary drops down the land value near that side of campus like a 5 ton lead weight...

Move the cemetary, expand the stadium and build a parking deck!

ROLL TIDE :)

ughh... (so very ugly)
:)

Around 100,000 is just about the practical limit for a football stadium.

To exceed that limit, you either have to increase the vertical density of the stands (in which case you feel like you are scaling a ladder when climbing them), make the seats narrower (the term "sardine" comes to mind) or extend the stands further back away from the field (in which case those in the last rows could get a comparable view from Google Earth).

About the only place to put more seats is directly above the field. However, that blocks out the sunlight and the vertical perspective would be very confusing.

i dont know strap me into a harness right over the field would be pretty cool, until someone gets drunk and has to pee, and ends up peeing on the field.

That would be a problem. Beer, potty waste, while drunk? That wouldn't be to bad if you are drunk, except OSHA would get involved. Next thing you know someone falls out of their harness.

Actually that would be kinda cool with over 12,000 students blaring over the
opposing teams tunnel as they come out and go in. Not to mention a possibility of another 12,000 regular adult fans/alumni getting to buy more tickets. Something tells me that BD stadium will seat near Mich's stadium when all is said and done and we could definitely fill it up no doubt. Im already enjoying what we have now;now that the student are directly over the other teams entrance tunnel. I smell bad doodoo for the other teams once we start winning big again. The regular students, greeks and etc. are going to give them hell. :biggrin2:
