4/26/2022

BIRMINGHAM, AL –
Alabama baseball scored in five of the nine innings on the way to a 9-3 win over Samford on Tuesday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The win moves the Crimson Tide to 25-17 on the season.

Alabama jumped out front early, plating two runs apiece in the second and third frames to gain a 4-0 advantage after three full. Samford got on the board with one in the fourth, but the Tide answered with a run of their own in the sixth followed by a three-run seventh. Alabama added one more in the eighth with Samford plating a single tally in the eighth and ninth for the 9-3 final.

Eight of the nine Alabama starters recorded at least one hit on the evening, highlighted by a 3-for-3 effort from Owen Diodati. The junior walked while adding a team-high tying two runs scored. Caden Rose also finished a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI, one run and a team-high three walks. Andrew Pinckney, Dominic Tamez and Bryce Eblin all matched Rose with a two-hit effort, with Pinckney and Tamez tying for the team-high total for RBI with two apiece.

Ben Hess (2-1) picked up the win on Tuesday. The freshman tossed a career-high 6.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"It was good to see some hard contact up and down the lineup tonight. We also had a lot of baserunners, which was great to see. It took us a little while to bust it open, but I was really happy to see us be able to do it. We had good production from everyone in the lineup, so it was a great all-around effort by our offense. Now we have to have a good day of practice tomorrow and get ready for a tough series with South Carolina starting Thursday."

How It Happened
  • T2 | Dominic Tamez started the rally with a one-out single. Owen Diodati followed with a walk before Tommy Seidl singled through the left side to score one. After a single to center from Bryce Eblin loaded them up again, Caden Rose singled to center to add another run. (2-0, Alabama)
  • T3 | A two-out double from Zane Denton was followed by a home run from Tamez to double the Tide lead. (4-0, Alabama)
  • B4 | The Bulldogs got on the board when the runner from third crossed on a groundout to second. (4-1, Alabama)
  • T6 | The Tide was able to load the bases with two down before a hit-by-pitch for Denton pushed another run across. (5-1, Alabama)
  • T7 | With the bases loaded and one down, Jim Jarvis sent a grounder to first to allow a runner to cross. Andrew Pinckney followed in the next at-bat with a two-run single to right. (8-1, Alabama)
  • T8 | Will Hodo recorded a pinch-hit solo home run. (9-1, Alabama)
  • B8 | Maurice Hampton hit a solo home run for Samford. (9-2, Alabama)
  • B9 | The Bulldogs singled with one down before a wild pitch moved the runner into scoring position. A double followed, scoring one for Samford. (9-3, Alabama)
