NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Tuesday college football poll voters should be aware that ESPN has a contract with the Southeastern Conference when they consider the cable sports network's analysis that Auburn should be the nation's No. 2 team and not Oklahoma.

Stoops, in his weekly meeting with reporters, pointed out ESPN's contract with the SEC but stopped short of accusing the network of bias.

Conspiracy theories have really starting cropping up this year with blown calls, bowl tie ins, BS...oops BCS, etc. I don't tend to put much credit to them, but the more that crop up, the more likely that there is some (not a lot) credibility to them.

This is almost as ridiculous as Mangino's blamin' the refs for the loss against Texas.

Here are exactly three reasons why:

#1. They're all owned by the same company: ESPN is owned by the same company that owns ABC, which broadcasts all of the Big XII games.

#2. ABC would be the one who benefits, not ESPN: ABC, not ESPN, will be televising all of the BCS games. ABC broadcasts exactly zero SEC games because they don't have a contract with them.

#3. Stoops is scared: Stoops has looked at the remaining games on Oklahoma's schedule, compared them to Auburn's, and realizes that if both win out...Auburn will jump Oklahoma straight up because Auburn plays the toughest opponents.

They just interviewed Charles Hollis on JOX and he said...

that he didn't believe there was a conspiracy in the AP, but said that he'd like to see the coaches poll because they don't have to release how coaches vote. He said that he'd bet there were Big XII coaches who had OU #1 and Auburn #20 so they can get a bigger margin and it will help OU remain above AU. I'd personally like to see Bob Stoops vote!

My wife watches ESPN CONSTANTLY. She is from New York and a big Yankees fan as well as a hockey fan. Now that she's been to a couple of Alabama games and watched a couple dozen on TV she is up to speed on college football. It is the first thing we watch for an hour in the morning and the last thing we watch at night.

Somebody is paying Trev Alberts to prop up Auburn. There isn't that much difference between those three teams.

I guarantee you that USC would rather face Tubby than Stoops.

If Bama beats Auburn Saturday, It's a moo point anyway.

re:

I beg to differ on the whole "there's no difference between the three teams". Oklahoma has allowed more points games than Auburn (#1 scoring defense) and USC.

Also, if you are USC----who would you rather face? An Auburn team that finally has an offense and revenge factor (23-0) or an Oklahoma team that has a recently injured Adrian Peterson?

Trev Alberts played at Nebraska. If he's propping up Auburn over Oklahoma for any type of biased reasons, it's because he simply don't like Oklahoma.

What's funny is that, after watching Auburn decimate everyone but LSU (including Tennessee and Georgia, both Top 10 teams when they played them) and Oklahoma struggle against all of the better teams they've faced...all the sudden it's ESPN who's pushing a bias just because they are starting to come around...just like everyone else at all of the other media outlets?

Fox has Auburn over Oklahoma. CollegeFootballNews has Auburn over Oklahoma. USA Today has Auburn over Oklahoma. All of the coaches and AP writers that vote in the polls have the two basically even.

But ESPN is biased just because they have a contract with the SEC? What's everyone else's excuse?

Oklahoma struggled to beat Kansas State in the midst of 40,000 Wildcat fans and was eaten alive by Oklahoma State's deep passing but barely survived in front of the 40,000 or so Cowboy fans.

Auburn rolled into 107,000 Tennessee fans and whipped Tennessee. Auburn rolled everywhere they were scheduled to and whipped everyone. Even LSU, who is the only team to come close to containing Auburn's offense, was completely shutdown by Auburn's defense.

Straight up, Auburn is better than Oklahoma.

Your kidding right. Stoops is just scared and has every right to be. The SEC has the best conf. around. Stoops is starting to sound like his DAddy Steve S. when he was at Fl. If you go undefeated in SEC you belong in the NC bottom line. If this were ALABAMA in Auburns place we would be ****ed right now. All the more reason we need a play-off if the other Division can do it so can we.

My reason for being upset at this is because this is a slur on the SEC and it's influence on the media, not just Auburn. All fans of SEC schools should be upset by this statement.

I do believe the score was 10-9. That is not a whipping by any means.
It was a good game all the way aroung. I do agree that Auburn has won their games in better fashion. BUt we only have to look at Ohio St. too see that it only matters that you win not how.

Normally I would think that Stoops has the tin foil hat on a little too tight, but considering that ABC/ESPN were the ones who awarded the Heisman to Ron Woodson so they could have the Heisman winner in the Rose Bowl I believe him.

The Trev Alberts comment can be thrown away. Do any of you remember last year how Trev ridiculed and made fun of Auburn all season? He basically called them a pretender all year. I think he's just calling it as he sees it, Trev does a good job. I hate to say it, but Trev is right.... Now he might feel like he was a little harsh on them last year and making up for it, but I think he gives an unbiased opinion.

Stoops just needs to worry about Oklahoma. Stoops and Oklahoma and have always been media darlings, he just hates to hear the truth.... I've never heard a coach whine this loud about something so petty, worry about Baylor, aTm forgot them....

I'm not saying Auburn might not deserve a shot at USC.

I'm just saying I think there might be a problem with ESPN having a fundamental component of the abomination that is the BCS named after them.

It is entirely possible that ESPN has an agenda.

AU is this year's darlings

We were the big story in 2000. It matters little to Sooner fans. This is all because of what happened last year. We dropped the ball, and we're paying the price now. I think we could, and would, beat USC or Auburn.
USC got to claim a national title last year without having to play OU or LSU. Maybe that's what we do this year.

Why Stoops thought such a stupid idea would work in the media is beyond me.

If anything, he has annoyed a LOT of media outlets and writers who will now vote Auburn #1 or even #2 just to rip him off.

His whole agenda is laughable. ABC-ESPN-BCS

Talking about matchups:

I'd take USC over Auburn.

I'd take OU over USC.

I'd take Auburn over OU.

But that's just me.

that's right! if i remember correctly, he said this is a team that has traditionally folded under expectations. he pretty much said they were overrated from the very beginning.
