That's it I'm done!!!! No more CMG Kool-Aid for me.....

There is no excuse for what happened yesterday. We finished the season losing 4 of our last 7.....

With as many Blue-Chippers as we have...there is no excuse for the inconsistant play...the unability to win on the road.....lack of leadership is huge and it starts at the top....

for goodness sakes...UW-Milwaukee...i know they are pretty good....but there is no reason why we should lose to them....UAB won....UAB is the best team in the state.....think about that one....we are behind UAB!!!!!!!!!!!!

whenever you get upset about finishing 24-8, just think back to the David Hobbs years...BAMA basketball is much better than is was before Gottfried got here, but they are not going to compete for a NC every year.

Bluechippers? We have 4 guys who were somewhat classified that. Only one guy was ranked a top 10 in the class for their position..... get over yourself.

Freakin' A..... we ran to the elite 8 just last year. It's not like we have 5 senior starters. We had 1 Senior who saw any real minutes yesterday.

So if you want Stansbury will accept your application at M$U fan club.

Exactly, great point there KY. When we start losing in the first round with per say Duke, UNC talent then I might get upset. Win or lose we made the tourney and things are looking good for recruiting.

Run to the Elite 8 last year masked a mediocre season

I was just as thrilled as everyone else with the run to the Elite 8 last year, but remember we were 17-13 (if I remember correctly) going into the Tournament and we were an at-large team from a power conference with an 8 seed - not exactly the stuff of legends.

I am not on the "Fire CMG" bandwagon, but I can see some things that definitely need improvement. How many times this year have we failed to execute what should be a simple defensive manuever on the ball screen at the top of the key and given wide open looks to an opposing three-point shooter? If you won't take my word for it, look at the quote from the UWM player in the paper this morning.

We need to develop some defensive and rebounding toughness in a hurry if we ever want to get over the hump. And for those who say "well, we are better than we were under Hobbs", are you saying you are simply content to avoid getting beat by 50 and just making the tournament? I'm not.

Get off it, man. Last year's team over achieved tremendously. They only returned Pettway and Thomas that had made meaningful contributions the year before. The 17-13 was about right for the talent and experience on hand. Last year's NCAA run gave us high expectations for this year, but we should not forget that we started this season with only 5 players (Shelton, Winston, Brock, Davis and Davidson) who got any PT at all last year. We broke in a brand new point guard (who really had a phenomenal season). He was a pleasant surprise. Shelton and Winston performed at about the level that I expected. Davidson was improved from the year before, and perhaps he was under utilized this season. Chuck Davis did not have the second half of the season that I expected, perhaps because defenses were comcentrating on him.

Jean Felix is a spectacular talent at times, but he was not consistently at the level that super sub Emmett Thomas played at last season. You would think that Demetrius Smith would have been easy to replace. After all, he was a defense oriented back up point guard who was usually a liability on offense, but could be counted on for 5-10 minutes a game as a reasonable back up PG. But somehow we never managed to replace him. Miles couldn't get his head on straight and left school, as did LaKory Daniels. Al Weber showed why he was recruited as a two guard rather than a point. So Steele had to play more minutes because the only viable option at the point was KW.

I'd have to say that I expected a little too much from our new players. Steele lived up to expectations. Felix did at times, but he was erratic. Weber never got untracked, Miles left and Jonuus was limited by his defensive shortcomings. I have to keep reminding myself that no matter how good a high school or juco player is at that level, it is a big adjustment to play at the D-1 level.

I'll keep drinking the Kool-Aid with 4 straight NCAA appearances. Unability(?)to win on the road. Didn't we have a winning record on the road this year?

I wonder how many we'll have to win on the road before someone says we are a good road team. This year, on the road, we beat UNCC, Alabama Stae and Alaska Ancorage in non conference games and lost to Wisconsn. In conference play on the road we beat Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Tennessee, while losing to Florida, Vanderbilt and LSU. That comes up to 8-4 on the road. Maybe it is neutral courts where we have a problem. We beat Minnesota, lost to Washington, beat Ole Miss, lost to Florida and lost to UWM. That is only 2-3. So away from Coleman we were 10-7.

Also, I think much of the other teams 3 point shooting can be attributed to shelton's lack of perimeter defense. He lets them have an open look and gain confidence.

That is a good point. As much as I love ES, quickness is not one of his strength's. he is tough to drive on, but he lacks the quickness to get out on the three point shooter. It isn't because he doesn't want to or isn't trying.

I like Grape the best!!!

I do fear that the "funny" Kool-Aid jug dude will crash my wall down every time I take a sip. He's sorta like clowns, they freak me out too.

Gotta agree with one Joe, not the other

Sorry JoeBama, I think Psycho Joe's posts are excellent and hit the nail on the head. We did overachieve last season. This season, we had a good team, but not a very good one. The SEC was down this year without a doubt. The conference's performance in the first round of the NCAA is supporting that ('Bama and LSU getting pasted pretty good, UK and Florida winning with less than stellar results against low seeds, Miss. State losing by ten in the first half now). Our record was inflated because of the weak conference foes, especially in the SEC West with Allbarn, Ol Miss, and Arkansas being there.

Another thing to consider is...as has been said numerous times on this board...Alabama's b-ball program is not going to attract the big-name, really successful coaches. Mark Gottfried obviously loves his school and I think he wants to coach in T-town for a long time. We might never see the great days we saw in the mid-70's through the early-90's, when CM Newton and Wimp Sanderson were the HC's. But Coach Gottfried got us to a place we'd never been before just a year ago, and that's spectacular. He deserves a lot of support from the alums, students, and fans. Lots of people got very spoiled because of last year's showing, and now some of them are calling for CMG's head. Ridiculous.

I hope he stays a long time...if so, the program will be in very good hands.

I'm not the biggest Kool-Aid fan, I've gotten to where I drink mostly water. There for a while I was drinking way too much caffeine. I've completely quit drinking cokes, now its only water and orange juice. I feel much better these days.
