For the first time since Saban got here I'm really starting to remember what it's like to have a "program" or "dynasty." I'm only 26 and Stallings was getting there, but I know some of you remember the glory days...

I really think we'll be one of those programs who has "rotate in" type guys, who as upperclassmen are like our 4th and 5th Wide Receivers and 5th D-Linemen that we will start seeing being picked on the first day of the NFL draft.

To me that is when you start talking about a "program." Look at the Wide Recievers and Defensive Linemen for LSU over the last 4 years. You consistently see guys that are down the depth chart as RS Sophmores, Juniors and even the occasional Senior that doesn't start, that get picked in the draft.

Ladies and Gents, even Les Miles wins championships in this setup...

No doubt blake that CNS has started a major reclamation program and the upgrade in talent is beginning to show. As far as a dynasty, I do not think so. I was around for the CPB years and during the 70's no team in the SEC came close to Alabama in terms of wins, talent, depth, and coaching. I know you are aware of just how good we were in the 70's. Only 1970 and 1976 were down years during that decade. Alabama was truly a dynasty. Parity killed the true dynasty. In the 70's only 2 other SEC teams could field a team that could play with Alabama, UGA and UT. Now there are at least 6 teams, including Alabama that can win the SEC every year and 2 more who would have a remote chance to get to Atlanta. Under CNS we will join this elite 6 teams as a perennial SECC contender but IMO we will not be a dynasty nor will any other SEC team.

I saw an interview recently with CNS-not too long after he came to ‘Bama-and he was talking about when he was with the Dolphins, nearly every NFL team he prepared for week in and week out had at least one of his former players on the roster. It got me to thinking- this guy has really recruited and developed some TOP LEVEL talent over the years. And that’s exactly what he’s doing here at Bama. He has a plan in everything he does…and he’s following through. It’s gonna be really sweet when we bounce back after we’ve been down for so long.

I agree that there is no such thing as a “dynasty” in the SEC these days. There’s way too much talent, coaching, and parity across the board for one team to dominate every year. However, there’s no question that we are headed back to the “upper echelon” of SEC teams…with a chance to complete for championships year in and year out.

The dynasty building is debatable, but you are 100% correct that we are witnessing a serious talent upgrade at the Capstone! For sure, if a dynasty can be built, it takes some serious talent being brought in and that is happening!!!

I see us as a definite program on the rise and one that will be a force in the SEC within 2 or 3 years, however, I feel that establishing a "dynasty" may be a bit beyond our reach at this point. If you look at the so-called dynasties of the past decade or so (Miami and USC come to mind), they typically hailed from weak conferences (Big East at the time and Pac 10) and are located in cities which would be a huge draw for 17 and 18 year old kids (no offense to Tuscaloosa, but few kids outside of the deep south would prefer it to Miami or LA). Unfortunately for us, the SEC has a ridiculous lineup of coaches and a stockpile of talent on the rosters across the conference. The fact that there are so many talented recruits in the region means that signing a top ranked class will have little effect on the recruiting successes of other teams (aside from Auburn, who was shut out of the state and had to resort to lower tier prospects in other states).

The fact of the matter is that no matter how far our program rises in the future, the other good teams in our conference (UF, UGA, LSU, UT, AU) are all ahead of us at this point and there really are no signs that they are going to have a sudden drop off.

I don't think anyone on this board would argue that we started and are continuing getting a talent upgrade under CNS. Eventually, we're just going to be reloading with top talent, rather than building up with top talent.

Nowadays, every college football fan needs to throw out the "dynasty" label, in my opinion. To me, there is too much parity in college football for that to happen. Even in the Pac-10, where USC has won a share or outright of the conference title for 6 straight years, they aren't winning the Pac-10 outright all those 6 times.

Look how hard it is to just win back-to-back NCs, look how hard it is just to repeat as SEC champions? The only way we'll have a "dynasty" is if we change the definition of a dynasty. Until then, we need to be content with the fact that under Coach Saban, we'll at least always been mentioned among the serious contenders for the SEC and the national championship.

How about this....."relative to" being in the strongest conference in America, and "relative to" how the definition of "dynasty" in college football has changed over the last few decades...we're well on our way to being a year-in and year-out contender. Aight?

That is a correct statement. Alabama will, once the rebuilding is complete, be a perennial contender for the SEC West title. IMO there are 2 programs that have peaked and may be headed slightly downward and that would be AU and UT. They will still be very competitive and dangerous but I do not think they will have the talent level needed to stay at or near the top in their divisions. I expect that over the next 5+ years that the SEC championship will rest with Alabama, LSU, Georgia or Florida.

Relative to my dynasty with Sacramento State in NCAA 2006, there is nobody that comes close. However, since some people consider LSU and possibly Florida "dynasty" material, I definitely feel that we will match their talent soon (and hopefully their success on the field). But yes, the early 90's feeling is slowly coming back...but we need a Copeland and Curry.
