"When I went to the Iowa State locker room, you would have thought they had won the national championship," Junker said. "When I went to the Minnesota locker room, you had at least a dozen guys in tears."
When you went into Bama's locker room after our bowl game, we actually had won the national championship. :BigA:

I dare say they were happier about getting rid of Chizik...instantly improved by five wins and got a bowl game...a lousy bowl game, but a bowl game nonetheless.

One of the problems with getting old (I am sixty-three) is that you find EVERYTHING changes, and like the Eveready Bunny, just keeps on changing and changing and changing and changing .......

Do I like it? No, it is downright silly. Will it bother me? No. I won't watch a bunch of losers, just do something else. Even the important teams we like to love or hate will lose their luster, I think.

It is one thing to watch a 7-5 Notre Dame play a 7-5 San Deigo State, but to watch a 5-7 Notre Dame play a 5-7 San Deigo State -- I don't know if I would be interested. The winner is still going to have a losing record.

Honestly, I didn't watch half the bowl games last year. I had rather watch paint dry.

It's bad enough that New Year's Day bowls don't mean what they used to. Heck, even the Sugar, Rose, Orange, and Fiesta are devalued with the creation of the BCS National Championship (as a separate game) in 2006. It seems like they're intentionally trying to devalue bowls, in order to create a playoff.

It's not anything new teams with losing records have already played in bowl games.

2001 N. Texas played Colorado St. in the New Orleans Bowl with a 5-6 record and finished the season 5-7. Sad, sad, sad.

It's gonna happen, there's no doubt about it. I honestly don't really think that it's that big of a deal. There's already too many bowls, too many mediocre teams anyway. If one or two 5-7 teams get in- so what? They'll be playing in bowls that we have probably never heard of and will be done with by Christmas anyway. I know it's not the same thing but I would have killed to watch San Jose St vs North Texas tonight! I may have even DVR'd it. Normally I don't start getting antsy til mid June but man, with the way the Braves are playing.....I guess I will start a countdown on when the preseason mags are released!

HE DID IT WITH CHIZIK PLAYERS!

(note I've read articles on ISU's rivals page basically stating that the majority of contributor's on Rhodes first-year team were from the guy before Chizik)

Also, reading this makes me pine for a playoff just to protect some of this sport's dignity.

Good article IMO. I don't like the big increase in bowls, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Eventually, supply & demand will resolve the issue. Sponsors aren't altruistic; they want fannies in the seats and eyes on the tube. If "their" bowl is a bust and continues to be so for a few years, they pull the plug. Water finds its own level.

Devalue the sport? I don't think so. Devalue bowl games? Sure, but they've been doing that for 15 years now with all the crappy little bowls. Devalue our number of bowl appearances and victories? Yes, and that's what gets me mad. We went to and won the majority of our bowl games when they meant something. We started our bowling tradition when there was only one and continued it through the years that there were just a hand full. Now every little school that fields a team gets a bowl invite. It makes our record look like less of an accomplishment and that's what bothers me.

BTW, if USC gets anywhere near the punishment they should that will take care of that little tie issue with them.

It seems each year I watch fewer bowl games thanks to the BCS. I know it is a treat for the players and it allows the coaches extra practice time, but it is painful to try and watch some of these games. I mean, the Motor City Bowl, a Sunbelt vs MAC showdown in Detroit in an indoor facility, I had rather have a root canal. One bowl recently bit the dust, can't remember which one, but I would venture to guess there will be more to follow. I have always loved college football and would in most cases watch whoever was on, but now if it isn't an SEC game or major intersectional game, I had rather watch Jerry Springer.

We should be deleting bowl games, not adding more. But it doesn't matter cause I won't be watching the "Cheese-n-Mac" bowls of the future. I will only watch the 4 major bowls (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta) plus other bowls like Cotton Bowl. Other then that there isn't a bowl I'm interested in watching, unless Alabama is in it.
