What do you guys think about that ? I am not crazy about it in any way. Imagine if he gets hurt playing FB. The outcry of why was he on the field would be huge !

I believe that unless a player has the moves to be a scoring threat anytime he touches the ball, they should stick with what they are best at.

I kind of like the idea of having a guaranteed touchdown on a 3rd and goal from the one.

If Cody can block a guy better than a FB can, I'd say keep him in at that position. It's not like he's going to get the ball in that situation - we don't have any big guys to block for him!

Charles Woodson, Deion Sanders, William Perry, Mike Vrabel and so on...

There are plenty of examples of players that were excellent on defense but could contribute on offense as well. The key is how you use them and when. For instance, Perry and Vrabel were used in very specific circumstances and it's hard to argue with the results. The goal of a football game is to win, you can get hurt on any play but as long as the game is in doubt I think you do what ever you think gives you the best chance of winning.

Now, if you injure a key player in a blowout needlessly, that's another story but that can happen no matter what position they are playing.

Agreed. Ultimately, I trust Coach Saban.

That would probably be the Double Jumbo Package.

And everyone on defense seeing Cody and Fluker run out on the field for the goal line offense would crap themselves funny before they get into their stance.

Re: Terrance Cody Playing Offense

I like all the other reasons you guys mentioned, plus I'm really into the entertainment value of it. Even my wife took notice the two times he lined up as a blocking back on x-yards and goal.
Along with me, she watched in awe as he cleaned out an area 5 feet wide on the left side of the line.
There's just something about watching a huge person with genuine atheletic ability get to do something he doesn't normally get to do and do it well. I'd love to see him get the ball just once and see who on the defense wants to tackle him. It would be like trying to tackle a runaway boxcar.

Re: Terrance Cody Playing Offense

I saw the value every time we had a guaranteed TD from three yards in. It's been a long time since I felt confidant we would score in that situation. It's really a lower risk play than any defensive play he lines up in and I look forward to seeing it many, many times this next season...

It was hilarious when he went in against AU. He was waving his arms at the crowd and everyone was cheering. I guess there's no sneaking him on the field, is there?

What about the thought of Cody moving to offensive line? With Chapman as good as he is and us losing a lot of talent on the OL, could this work? Fluker and Cody side by side could be fun to watch. I'm not familiar with the difference in styles of blocking on DL and OL, nor do I really give this any real shot of getting considered or even thought about, but just thought it a fun idea.

One day they'll overload the left side, and whoever is running the ball is going to walk in.

Re: Terrance Cody Playing Offense

The raw skills are there, but DL requires more agility, which he has. OL requires more time and training - which he doesn't have. Chris Samuels is an example of an OL who had the agility to be an excellent DL, and so does big Andre'...
