Roll Tide Roll

Trash Talk? How big of lead is big enough to quit trying to score? In your opinion, what is the proper ettiquette to call of the scoring. Billy Martin was quoted in an SI article "If they agree to try to keep scoring, I will quit trying" after he was accused of running up the scores. That is the source of that saying. If I ask for your opinion it is only fair to give mine. Many factors to consider. The #1 consideration is the talent level of your competitor. Do they have the ability to or capability to come back. In the case of the Tide or any other team in the tournament, they obviously have the talent and ability to score in bunches. You never want to show up your competitor in any athletic event, but you never want to stop competing either. That competitive mindset is impossible to retrieve once you relinquish it. I think in baseball, it is harder to determin what is enough than in any other sport. I have experienced losses with a one time 10 run lead and I have experienced wins with 8 run defecits. If my tone is of trash talk, I sincerely apologize. None meant. Too much of that crap. I just was questioning was this "Bush League" claim out of frustration, true feelings or both. Sometimes the tone intended comes across differently on the internet than what was meant. Again, if I am not welcome I will honor your board and just continue to lurk. I do recognize the fact that I am a guest on this fine baseball board and have no problems acting as such. Again my truest apologies, thank you and have a great day.

I can't speak for all "Aggy" fans but personally I know I wouldn't be upset by it. In college baseball, there are very few leads that are safe. One bad inning by our pitcher and you guys could have been right back in it. How would it look for us to lose a 10 run lead just because we stopped trying to score when we had the opportunity? If you guys came back to tie it or take the lead and then our bats went cold our coach would be in for a world of criticism.

The poster above is correct. This is the postseason. "Etiquette" is much less important than winning at this point. Not trying to flame here, just being brutally honest.

Funny how all of the Aggie fans agree with the attempted steal because for some strange reason the unwritten yet universally accepted (well, in most places) rules of baseball etiquette get thrown out the windown in the postseason.

As Tider in Illinois mentioned, if the roles had been reversed, you would be singing a different tune.

99% of managers and head coaches at any level of the game would agree with me.

As I mentioned, no I wouldn't.

As Tider in Illinois also mentioned, we are going to just have to agree to disagree on this one. Good luck against cougar high tonight.

Obviously that is easy for you to say right now, but I'll acknowledge your point. I will still maintain that if the roles had been reversed, I would be upset with our team. There are just some things you do not do in this game. You can argue about the possibility of a comeback all you want, but no matter the circumstances, it will always appear that you are showing up the other team. If this had been the majors, the first batter in the next inning would have been drilled.

I have said all I am going to say on the matter. A&M has an excellent team and they embarrassed us today. Congratulations on your win. Now let's move on to other subjects.

Texas A&M attempted a steal with runners on first and third with a 10 run lead. Even though an interference call negated it, the attempted steal was nevertheless nothing more than CLASSLESS, BUSH LEAGUE TRASH.

Inexcusable, unsportsmanlike b.s.

Good job Eric Mennen.

This is an unbelievable move. How stupid is the A%M manager. He violated so many rules with this bulls*** move. Ridiculus.

Again a complete misunderstanding, Billy Martin was not a justification source to support my opinion just the source of the statement. We would certainly agree Billy Martin would not be the strongest support for any moral or ettiquette justification on any subject.
I do not know what I more can say other than I apologize if I offended anyone. Not a bit of "trashing" intended. Have a great day and good luck this evening. Maybe we will meet again Sunday?

Nebraska are down to SMS 3-2 in the 8th, Miami had to throw a 1-hit shutout to win 1-0 over FAU. Stanford are down 4-1 to UC-Riverside in the 4th, UNC beat Miss State 10-2 in Starkville.

Something weird is going on this weekend with the top seeds!
