Sgt. Ist. Class Howard Blake, who is serving our counrty in Afghanistan, requested an Alabama state flag to fly and was refused by Gov Bentley's office saying they couldn't afford to send flags to everyone. If you DIED your family could request and receive one however.
After Matt Murphy, a local talk show host, on WAPT AM heard about this, he got on the band wagon, and has since gotten a 10' x 15' Alabama flag to send to him Spetember 11th. It will be in several locations to be signed next Wed., Thurs, and Fri. by fellow Alabamians before sending.
BTW, Gov Bentley after hearing about this, has changed the policy. The "Gov" has tried to say that it was the policy when Gov Riley was governor, but it wasn't. Bentley's office changed it.
Matt is also going to see that Sgt. Blake has a flag of his choice of schools - be it Alabama, Auburn, or whatever.
