The Alabama 'mafia'

IN an interview today Stallings said he never had to answer to any "mafia" and i dont take anything curry says seriously. I believe its probably a major problem of the university but its an issue like the machine....no one talks about it because the pople whod have to fix it are part of the problem. Thats about all i know and i'm just a student...i'm sure they're are people who know more than i do.

Just who is the pople whod? :biggrin2:

is it not logical to think that people who have been part of the machine would not want to continue controlling parts of the university after graduation? I would think that most of those guys in frats go on to make enough money to control some kind of operations at the university. of course all of this is complete speculation on my part. :conf2:

Oh yeah, I've never heard of the Machine either.... cause it doesn't exist. And they've never fixed an election either.

Yeah, I couldn't care the less...but Theta Nu Epsilon most certainly does exist. I don't care because in a democracy, political organization isn't illegal. The fraternities have every right to organize themselves for their own interest. Don't like it...then find your own cause to rally around. As the democrats discovered in the national election, being "not the republicans" is not enough. All the attempts to sink the machine have been more for the sake of sinking the machine than for any real cause...and nobody independent has any reason rally around that.

Sorry, for the off-topic-ness. As for whether "the machine" controls anything on campus, who really knows. I guess if it is true that Shelby was a machine rep, then you'd have to wonder with that temple to his namesake on the north end of the campus.

The Machine exists, only they get called boosters after officially leaving the university. Some might prefer calling it the Good Ol' Boy network. Whatever you call it, they do find a way to meddle, make their preferences known, give or withhold donations based on how they feel their preferences are being honored, etc. I think calling them a "mafia" is ludicrous. Nobody's getting whacked...just leaned on now and again. :cool2:

Yeah, if you're calling that a mafia...then mafias are rampant across the nation's major university.

This is a thread for testing which of us has a suspicious turn of mind. A cyber inkblot test, as it were...:)
