Well, let's see, the murder HAPPENED IN THE MAYOR'S CITY might be a good reason. I mean, I seem to recall Rudi Giuliani on TV during the 9/11 attacks, too, but I might not be remembering things correctly. The mayor of Boston was on TV during the Marathon Bombing. I know this might shock some states rights conservatives (of which I am - up to a point), but law enforcement is mostly local.
Then again, we saw The Big Oaf insert himself into the situation and lie about everything - and then blame someone else for his lying.
Thing is, I can just as easily believe Patel lied to Trump about the FBI's actions as I can Trump lied about the situation on the ground.
Look, I'll grant your point - we don't (and shouldn't) know everything going on in an investigation until the situation is secure. Problem is, we have a President who is so tickled by, "I know something you don't and this is what it is" that this kind of kerfluffle is inevitable almost every time.
