The Church Thread: Chapter I Verse 2?

I haven't seen it. Has it reached any mainstream news outlets?
I can't answer that question as I do not consume MSM products, but I can confirm it's all over social media. I first saw it on X. Said pastor claims that the victim threatened to rape and kill his family, but as yet, I've not seen any sort of proof for this.

Apparently there were other church members present when the guy told the pastor he was going to rape and kill his wife and kids. That seemed to be the last straw in a sequence of years of this type of stuff happening. I think the pastor just snapped.

Well, if that is the case, this is clearly a situation of mess around, find out. Anyone making threats about my family like this is definitely going to his bell rung.....and he'll be lucky if I stop at that.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the recent viral video of the pastor of a church in Florida beating the stuffings out of the 20 year old man? I'm surprised I haven't seen someone post about it.

It’s maybe the best thing I’ve seen on the internet in 20+ years

I’m not a fan of organized religion or Christianity as it’s ’practiced’ but that’s irrelevant.

What I am a fan of is someone finding out after they’ve messed around.

The Pastor dished out an old school beating and the cherry on top was chucking the cell phone so that kid couldn’t even call Jesus to save him 😭

12/10 butt whooping no notes

I must be blissfully unaware of these things. I'm not much on social media, anyway.

I would have to say that the kid who said these things had to be mentally unstable.

Probably the psych ward would have been a better option than a beatdown.

That being said, I understand the sentiment. I am known to become pretty angry and wanting to hurt somebody if my family is ever threatened. When my 22 yr old's ex-bf wouldn't get out of her car, my wife had to step in front of me. Otherwise, I was going to jail that night. :D

Now that I've watched the news report, I'm seeing that the pastor is also a well-known COVID vaccine-denier. So that cloud on his judgement adds a little wrinkle. And did he exaggerate the threat? Who knows. Seems like yet another nutjob from the extreme rightwing evangelicals.

He will probably get a gold star from his parishioners.

I'll be OOP for the rest of the AM. I'll check back to see if it's fake or not. Meanwhile, any mods who discover it is can either delete or post that it's fake...
So far no confirmation either way but based on the quote from the police it certainly looks like this pastor is willing to stretch the truth, so to speak:

It's funny how the very same people who said what Karmelo Anthony did WAS NOT self defense are trying to use "self-defense" to not only justify, but celebrate the pastor's actions, even going as far as calling it "biblical". How he handled it was anything but "biblical".

His family was not under an imminent physical threat. Sure, a more than likely mentally ill 20 year old was making some disturbing verbal threats, but verbal threats don't fall under "self defense". Responding to the verbal threats by walking TOWARD the verbal threat isn't going to fall under "self defense". Yelling "I'm going to break your neck" as you're walking toward the person doesn't fall under "self defense".

Can I understand why he lost it? Yep, and odds are I would have lost my self control as well and beat the ever living dog mess out of the guy. But I'm not going to use God's word to justify the actions when there is a mountain of scripture that addresses this type of situation and by all accounts, my actions were the exact opposite of what the scripture instructs. This is the problem I have. I'm not propping myself up as "better" than the pastor, because truth be told, I would have snapped too. But as a Christian community, let's not celebrate his actions as "righteous" or "biblical". In his anger, he sinned, as probably I would have too.

VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican responded aggressively Thursday to a traditionalist group that consecrated bishops without the pope’s consent, declaring the Society of St. Pius X had formally broken with the Catholic Church. It also excommunicated its bishops and priests, and warned its faithful that they too face the harshest sanctions in the church.

By declaring a schism and extending sanctions to potentially thousands of Catholics, the Vatican’s doctrine office went above and beyond the minimum sanctions foreseen by the church’s canon law to respond to the consecrations Wednesday of four new bishops.

The society, known by its acronym SSPX, celebrates the ancient Latin Mass and opposes the modernizing reforms of the Catholic Church, which it considers to be rife with heresies and errors. While a fringe movement on the Catholic right, the SSPX has been a thorn in the Vatican’s side for five decades because it claims to be even more Catholic than the Holy See.
