Especially when you see countries like India industrializing (the cheapest way to get that energy is coal and oil) and China, who has doubled their power generation ability in the last decade, 80% of which comes from coal.

Ultimately, it really doesn’t matter how much you work to minimize poisoning the river when the cities upstream continually increase the amount of poison they dump into it.
The US could shut down the production of electricity and emissions from every source and it would make no difference. We are not the main drivers of climate change. What's fun is the left wants the US to destroy itself and it won't do a bit of good. As much as I like renewables and put solar panels on my own house which I'm a huge fan of we can't produce the power we need to survive on renewables unless we build a huge number of nuclear plants.

We have no control over how others treat the planet, all we can do is do our best with our little corner and solve the problems that arise - really, this holds true whether one believes humans are causing global warming or not.
This is where the reality of science runs up against the reality of politics.

Let's be crystal clear: NOBODY in the West is going to live a monastic/reserved/carbon footprint free life and watch folks elsewhere NOT also have to "save the planet" with us. We can't get people to pay more in taxes, can't get them to conserve energy without imposing it, cannot get them to wear masks or take shots.

And no, folks, appealing to anyone's sense of so-called "shame" isn't going to work, either. You couldn't shame the majority of voters from re-electing Donald Trump (yeah, yeah, plurality but who cares) after he'd been convicted of 34 felonies and inspired January 6th......but "people will listen to our good intentions", right?

And I'm not one that thinks climate change is a hoax or a conspiracy theory or anything else sinister. (I can easily note a number of the popular level arguments are bad, but that doesn't make climate change a hoax).

But human nature is NOT going to sacrifice jack squat unless you impose it and it's universal. You'd think a political party that held onto power for years with labor unions and the "you can't make me" approach would know you can't force people to not eat meat, to buy EVs, etc., but they apparently think it can be done without some sort of authoritarian ruler.

You get elected in the USA on two issues:
1) the economy (which includes unemployment and inflation and, yes, prices)
2) national security (which includes - wait for it - the border)

They'll tell you what you want to hear (this is literally a "both sides" thing) about what they're gonna do about abortion, DEI/affirmative action/civil rights, crime, gay marriage, trans in sports (or not), gun control and climate change. But any candidate spending ANY time on anything other than the two issues listed above is wasting their time and breath.

Humans are the most adaptable species that has ever existed. We will figure it out.
While I hesitate to place my "faith" in this, I cannot deny its general truth, either. Furthermore, a simple perusing of old newspapers proves that we've had other "if we don't address this emergency now, it will destroy our town/county/country" emergencies in the last 150 years.

Back after Mrs O'Leary's cow destroyed Chicago, there were genuine fears that the piles of horse manure (so beloved by George Costanza) were going to ruin the city of Chicago with the stench, disease, etc because they had tons of horses and stockyards.

Not too long later, the automobile was invented...and nobody today in Chicago worries about the piles of horse manure, believe me.

And towns had outbreaks of diseases because they didn't know about things like handwashing and penicillin and antibiotics. But we learned and while I know the Covid-19 pandemic is still fresh in our minds, that was still the exception.

Kids have no idea when my grandmother tells them about doing air raid drills for nuclear attacks or the sheer fear that gripped Lanett High School in October 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. They have no idea that I used to go to bed at night HAPPY I lived near military installations that would be destroyed by nuclear bombs so I wouldn't have to suffer from radiation sickness and stumble about like a zombie for 30 years.

Those THREATS are still here, but the FEAR is pretty much a thing of the past. And despite all the doomsday reporting you see online, schools are safer now than they once were.

I'm gonna be honest, though: I sincerely hope a hard left liberal Democrat wins the White House in 2028.

And then I hope that person takes the slimy way Donald Trump has turned everything into an "emergency" and uses it to "save the planet" and declare the need for serious gun control. I oppose both of these concepts (largely), but watching slimeballs who have laughed for a decade live under the world they created would be a welcome act of comic relief.

Pull all the childish stunts Trump did.
And then tell them how immune you are from prosecution.

didn’t you get the memo, the only serious threat we are facing is democrat overreaction
What's funny is that while this is the USUAL tactic they use - they're incredibly silent right now (and for the record, I think it's the smart move)....and they're getting more grief from their own side than anyone else.

Climate change is real.

But the brutal truth is that if we couldn't get millions to wear a mask or take a shot then let's not pretend we can regulate the behavior of everyday human beings in one country much less 200 and somehow correct it, either. At this point we could never spend another dime on climate change and we'd get about 90% of the same results.
That kind of frames the issue incorrectly IMO. We WILL spend another dime on climate change the question is will we be proactive or reactive. Climate change is going to cost us money whether we deal with it or not. And even if we say the number of 90% is accurate who knows how much money that 10% could save us in the future. 🤷‍♂️

What is the alternative to humans not figuring out long term solution to our short term blunders?

We've been told over and over this is an existential threat, so I see no other way to read your response.
Mass migrations from coastal regions for one. There are many others. Just because we dont have the total answer now doesn't mean we should just sit here and do nothing! Ignoring it is a terrible choice!

It's not a binary solution - do nothing vs pull out all of the stops to fight it. But unless it's an extinction level threat we have to make judicious choices as to how we address it - and when roughly 1/3 of the human population lives in two countries that are experiencing massive growth in power infrastructure via coal, there's only so much sacrifice that makes sense.

More to the point - humans have been forced to relocate and abandon certain parts of the world throughout history - we're a resilient species.

INSANE: Whoopi Goldberg absurdly claims that President Trump is going to break up interracial marriages and redistribute the white spouses:

"He's going to deport and you put the white guy with someone else! The man is out there!"

Does anyone actually believe that?

Stupid people shouldn't breed.
You are increasingly sounding like the people who screamed to the hills that Trump was not connected to Project 25 in any way, then went silent as Trump started implementing the changes called for in that ignoble tome.

They'll be going after gay marriage soon enough. While I've no doubt that that there are some MAGAheads who would like to send interracial marriages into the same dustbin, it's hard to imagine that getting anywhere near the Supreme Court as long Thomas is on the bench.

I never said that, nor was I interested enough to read all of it myself. One thing I did know is that I couldn't trust the document's critics because of their established habit of launching into hysterics over every little thing, legitimate or not. Remember, these are the same people that referred to anyone with the temerity to disagree with them as fascists. When stuff like this is their "go to" move, they shouldn't be surprised when no one takes them seriously.

Trump has hosted gay weddings at MAL for Christ's sake. I haven't seen one shred of evidence to suggest that either he or anyone on SCOTUS has any intention of doing any such thing. The only people I have heard suggest otherwise are activists whose aversion to truth versus whatever advances their narrative is well established.

Newsweek reached out to the Trump campaign for comment via email. Mar-a-Lago has previously hosted other LGBTQ+ events, including in 2022 when the Log Cabin Republicans held their Spirit of Lincoln gala at the property. According to Queerty, Trump gave a speech at the event, while former First Lady Melania Trump was given an award.

"We are fighting for the gay community, and we are fighting and fighting hard," Trump said at the event.
