With all the talk that 2008 election being a glimpse of the future of American politics and 2016 being hailed as the death of the GOP, I think Trump’s whooping of Kamala and the red surge has emphatically put that to rest. The Democratic Party is dying to the degree that in its current form you cant have much faith in it going forward. Lets seriously look at it:

1) They have lost to Donald Trump TWICE
2) They have just ensured that that the Supreme Court will be a far right entity for another generation where Alito and Thomas will most assuredly step down this time for younger versions of themselves
3) They have now ensured that the Executive Branch will almost be a branch of vengeance and kingship.

I mean we can dismiss all this and say "Well Trump will mess up enough to give government back to us" but two things come instantly to mind.... 1) After what irreparable damage those 4 years will bring and 2) how the hell did you lose to this guy for a second time after America saw what he did a first time.

The Democrats lost simply because as a party they dont understand voters and dont understand how to win. Something the Republicans have figured out very well.... now if the GOP knew how to govern then they would never lose. Historically a set of two embarrassing losses of this magnitude should fundamentally change or kill a Party because its a reflection on their inability to win as we saw with the Whigs, Federalists, and Democratic-Republicans. Heck we in a way saw the Democrats go more right after losing to Reagan and Bush for 12 years.

But I have a feeling that the Democrats are going to continue the same strategy they have for the last 12 years in demonizing voters and hoping the GOP messes up bad enough to have a rebuttal election. The problem is that they fail to see that most AMericans still havent fully recovered from the 2008 financial recession and focus on the economy twice over any pet issue that the Democrats are popular with. Until they start speaking to those voters... then they are cooked. And if you think Trump is bad, then I guarantee you that who runs for the GOP 2028 will be far worse and far mor Machiavellian than he possibly could be.

In summary, the Democrats know how to lose elections in epic ways, but these last two that they lost might have catastrophic implications. But no longer can they blame voters, luck, or Russian interference, they need to take a critical look inwards and decide if going further and further to left to appease the progressives is truly the winning strategy in the longrun or is distancing themselves from the progressives a better move in an effort to meet voters where they currently are at. Because its obvious that doing both doesnt work. They have 2 years to decide before we have to seriously look forward to a 2028 bout.

Many democrats and several on here believe overall that America is a racist, bigoted country. It's been repeated on this board by a handful of posters for years. Yet I'm reading posts from people who have believed that about the country for years in "shock" as to why the majority of the country didn't vote for Harris and voted for Trump.

If you want to know why Trump beat Harris just listen to your own words.

1.Trump is a racist, bigot, misogynist, etc.

2. The country is mostly made up of racists and bigots

3. Hmmm, I wonder who the bigots and racists are going to vote for?

So why is everyone from the left shocked? Geeze, seriously, if "you" already thought the country was mainly bigots and racist to begin with, then why would the bigots and racists vote for "your" party? This isn't hard. It's obvious why the Democratic party didn't win. It's simple math.

From where I sit, I think the DNC has a serious identity crisis. They don't really know what they want to be and until they do, they are pretty much stuck in this position. Personally, I feel like they would be doing themselves a favor by telling the neocons to get lost and dialing things back with the whole gender thing. Most importantly of all, they need to work their asses off to get back the blue-collar workers they threw overboard some time ago.

Trump made gains in every demographic, not because he is just so star-spangled awesome, but because the alternative has grown toxic. Media trust has plummeted, even as they attempt to pluck the nerves of people who once took them seriously with demented fantasies of ovens and railroad cars. Dems and the media went "all in" on this and in a couple years from now when the mid-terms roll around and none of these dire "predictions" have come true, look for it to show up in the returns again if this silly narrative is still being pushed.

It all comes down to this: did the Democrats learn anything from this election? One thing that's obvious to me is that a lot of the voters clearly have not. The reactions and comments I'm seeing on X and message boards continues to bear this out. However, what have the king-makers at the DNC learned? That's the important question. They need to be doing some serious soul-searching right now.

Much truth is revealed in this post.

I agree that too much emphasis has been placed on the principals instead of the principles.

I do know that Harris did her best to not fall into that trap and was actually pretty smart in avoiding denigrating rhetoric unless I truly missed something, and there is a lesson to be learned by her surrogates.

Democrats and freedom loving people have lessons to learn.

The electorate is going to learn a few hard lessons over time.

Takes a lot of arrogance, and very little introspection to be a hard core democrat right now.

Just my two cents, but I believe that you'd have to be intentionally obtuse if you tried to posit that race and gender weren't Kamala's two biggest weaknesses.

All this election did was reaffirm this.

Then why did anyone in the DNC expect to win? Again, I ask, if you believe the country is made up of majority racists, then why were there ANY expectations of a win? And why do you expect your party to ever win?

Do you really believe this about anyone who currently would rather have a democrat right now?

If so, what does that say about republicans/conservatives/independents?
Takes a lot of arrogance to think the way that party is wired. Takes a lot to think that there’s nothing wrong with your candidates, it’s just the rest of the populace is too dumb to figure it out. It takes a lot of arrogance, and dare I say privilege, to think that abortion “rights” and transgender issues are more important than affording groceries to eat.

Takes a lot of denial to look at the results of this election and not realize the problem is the party, and not the people.

There are no good guys, only the lesser of two evils, and five million more people think Trump is the lesser of the evils.

It's far easier to call the public racists and garbage and morons than for the Dems to admit that they aren't nearly as smart or wise or noble as they claim to be.

Well they win either way. Either the election, or the ability to make posts like this and feel superior to the rest of the country.

Takes a lot of projection to think those things if no one you love is affected by transgressions on the rights you mention above.

It is obvious many more voters preferred Trump. That will be unfortunate for us all.

You making friends today I see.

I'm not trying to be a donkey, I'm not a Trumper, never voted for the man in my life. It's just a contradiction I see coming out of the DNC from a lot of people (not all of them of course). They believe the majority of the country is racist and bigots so why in the hell would they ever believe their party would win if the other party stands for racists and bigots. If I'm a racist and bigot I'm going to the party that caters to me.

GOP=Bigots/Racist
Majority of country=Bigots/Racist

This ain't hard...

On another thread, I listed the things that are important to my wife's community. I imagine the list is very similar for a lot of successful immigrant communities. These concerns are at odds with what the Dems stand for. Instead of adjusting the party platform to be more appealing to these voters, or at least taking a stance of respectful disagreement, my wife and other Asian Americans are accused of ... white supremacy. It's practically an automated response.
