The Fed Thread: FBI, CIA, NSA posts go here.

Seems like everyone who runs the FBI wants to emulate J Edgar Hoover and have dirt on everybody. Someone probably should but I would say that is more appropriate for the CIA than FBI. And when you are dealing with politicians someone should be keeping an eye on them.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Everyone in D.C. should be watched for sure, but that especially includes bureaucracies who are often tasked with this operation. To this day, I am mildly amused over the fact that most Americans are A-OK with the United States engaging in election meddling in other peoples' countries, but get their shorts into an impossible knot over the idea of such a thing happening here. And if you think they are upset over the idea of Russia or China engaging in such behaviors, pay attention to how hard they scoff at the notion that bad-faith actors right here in the U.S. are doing it, too. Talk about whistling past the graveyard!

It's hilarious that anyone wants to give credence to anything that comes out of the administration of, "Hey, you , go find something on this guy I hate."

We've already learned the deception practiced by Trump's lawyer on the indictment of Comey.

Over and over, "I want that guy indicted."

The latest is Pete Keg-seth now wants to call Kelly back to active duty for court-martial because of the alleged crime of telling military members not to obey ILLEGAL orders. And, of course, it's typical theatrics from Spineless Jellyfish Inc.

Trump's legal team of Dewey-Cheatum-and-Howe loses another one.

A federal judge on Monday dismissed the criminal indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James after finding the prosecutor who brought the cases, former Trump attorney Lindsey Halligan, was not lawfully appointed.

U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie said that she agreed with Comey, who moved to dismiss the case on the grounds that Halligan's appointment was illegal

Dear Don,

Sorry, no revenge gonna happen.

Sincerely,

Jim Comey

Cue "but Clinton appointed de judge!"

(And then pause to note the irony of a Clinton appointed judge "helping" James Comey.....)

Did the judge give a shout-out to Aileen Cannon?

But seriously, they'll just appeal with a different prosecutor. The judge left that avenue open as far as I can tell.

Donald Trump never can get anything done past the accuse stage.

That's because ACCUSING someone is the easy part.
FINDING GUILTY is a high enough bar that the man with the low intellect and high BMI can't do it.
And when he's told by actual lawyers who would know, he gets mad and continues hitting his head against the wall.

It's almost like all those years of stiffing lawyers so none of the good ones will work for him was......incredibly short-sighted and stupid.

Dismissed indictments; two grand juries refusing to issue new charges; a judge blocking key evidence from being used for a fresh case: in trying to prosecute key targets of President Donald Trump, the Justice Department has faced failures on a scale rarely seen in federal prosecutions.

The most dramatic recent setback was a second federal grand jury's refusal on Dec. 11 to indict New York Attorney General Letitia James, after an earlier grand jury rejected the Justice Department's proposed charges last week. Abbe Lowell, a prominent lawyer who represents James, described the repeat failure as "unprecedented."

Shortly before that, earlier indictments against James and former FBI Director James Comey were thrown out, and a judge ruled that the DOJ can't use evidence – at least for now – that was key to its first indictment against Comey.

The latest developments exacerbate the mounting struggles Trump administration lawyers have faced in trying to prosecute Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The president called for prosecuting both of them, as well as Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) in a Sept. 20 social media post.

"This is an embarrassment," Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor, told USA TODAY. "The last thing you want to be as a prosecutor is to be on the defensive, and that's exactly what's happening here."
