It's obviously time for a change. There is zero excuse for us to be at the bottom of the league. It would be one thing if the SEC was a good basketball league, but we are not even a good basketball league! We are at the bottom of a really bad basketball league!

I listened to some of the game on the radio while I was out this afternoon and then I heard about the last 7 minutes too.

If not for Relly taking over offensively in the second half we would have never been in the game. I don't even know if this game was on TV or not, but if I would have been home I probably wouldn't have taken the time to watch.

Part of the problem during the last possession is everybody in North America knows we only have one offensive option in that scenario.

You've heard of DJ's who have a "face for radio." I'm pretty sure our basketball team has a "face for radio" right now too.

It was, and I watched it. I agree that TR was again our MVP and without him we would probably have lost by double digits. I thought for a few minutes though that we were going to pull out the win.
I also remember when the sports casters were talking about the "bubble" teams and mentioning that when you talk about those teams, you're inevitably talking about SEC teams. That says a lot about where our conference stands in relation to basketball.
Imo it can't bode well when our team is virtually always ranked below those bubble teams that are on the outside looking in.

I think a change needs to be made. But, there is no clear cut basketball savior out there. (Pearl aside). I don't think we need to let our basketball program go through another losing year. The fan base seems hopeless.

I've almost lost all interest in going to the games and have shown up really only for the kids sake. I knew we would not be a NCAA team this year, but in the bottom 3 is just unacceptable. I saw this coming last year and said as much, but as bad as we were under CMG, we are worse now.

Gottfried had final four talent and couldn't win a road game in the SEC. Grant doesn't have that luxury, but it looks to be coming in. Hopefully.
I'm not arguing that Grant has done a great or even a good job, but Gottfried absolutely blew it.
If Gottfried's kids had of played with the same effort that Grant's kids do, they would have been something special. They didn't.
That simple.

After five years the only person to blame for the talent on campus is Anthony Grant. I have no faith that this year's signing class will be developed, coached or stay on campus until graduation under the current staff. At this point in his career at Alabama Grant's tenure is much more similar to the David Hobbs era than Mark Gottfried's. Their winning percentages are almost identical with the biggest difference being that Hobb's made the tournament twice and won a game there.

The SEC is the worst BCS conference. So we're like the UConn of basketball right now.
You may want to rephrase that. Maybe "So we're like the Georgia State of football when it comes to basketball right now."

Anyhow, Grant went easy on his homie Frank Martin - that explains yesterday...

maybe Grant isnt a good evaluator of talent. i say maybe so i dont bash. basketball is a bit harder to judge talent than football though. I remember under Wimp we'd get so many great players in the lower classifications. And when we got the highly touted guy, he'd normally deliver as well. doesnt take a rocket scientist to see a 15 inch vertical on a post player. or a wing that can only go right. i could go on

I agree fully. To argue who had more talent Gottfried or Grant is pointless. Also, we have been saying for 3-4 years wait until we get the new players in...Lacey/Randolph/Cooper, then Pollard, then Taylor/Hale...now we are saying it again. Unfortunately, I believe Grant will get one more year and fan apathy will worsen.

Absolutely.

I don't think a whole lot of people want to give Grant another year. As of matter of fact, the only reason why I see anybody wanting to give him another season is because of the buyout.

If he's given another "season" I don't think he'll last the entire year. I believe it will be another mid-season fire type of thing (similar to Gottfried).

Realistically, we're stuck between a rock and a hard place with no where really to go.

Our over reliance on Releford is really an indictment of Grant - he's funneling the offense (such as it is) through Trevor - there's no way you can me that our other players are as bad as they appear.

I see your point.

However, the players around Releford haven't been developed. I don't think there's a player on the team outside of Releford, who is better now than they were when they arrived on campus. In fact, I think several of the players have digressed over that period.

I think Relly is so talented, he probably feels like he has to take over games because he knows the guys around him are lacking so much confidence they can't make key shots.

I'll add something else here too: I watched Levi Randolfph and Trevor Lacy play high school basketball in Huntsville.

While Lacy is gone now, he could generates points and we miss that.

Levi was never a great shooter, but he is a great athlete and he's the type of player that needs to take the ball to the rim AND/OR run the fast break and be a finisher.

Problem is, in both cases with Levi and Trevor L., they both were not used the way they needed to be used. Lacy needed to shoot alot...it's what he did in high school and he needed a lot of touches and, frankly, considering the talent around him, deserved them IMO.

Levi has never been used the way he needs to be used IMO. He's a deer that needs to run and jump and we've got him playing a half court, pure shooters role, which he is not.
