please tell me how you think that coach grant or anybody on the staff made the players hesitant and ruin their confidence.........in my opinion confidence is a player thing and you can't coach that.....the players were hesitant to take shots because their confidence not because grant told them to....thats just common sense

losing lacey was not grant's fault.....lacey didn't like the way coach was using him and thats his opinion...players transfer, it happens.....grant or let alone any coach will not cater their system to make one player happy....besides, lacey wasn't that great of a player anyway...he was an average guard....not better than releford

cooper has played out of position due to lack of depth in the front court not by scheme
I think what RamaJama was referring to was a post in another thread by TIDE-HSV that he has received information from some of the parents of Huntsville-area players in which CAG has placed restrictions on when to shoot in games. I agree with RamaJama. I have noticed several times this year when Levi Randolph passes up wide-open shots when he curls off of a screen.

yeah i've noticed it too and it may or may not have been said by coach grant to the players but thats my point....WE don't know...nobody in this forum is in the locker room or at the practices so we can't say that coach told them to pass up open shots....its mere speculation or opinion which everyone is entitled to.....i can't find any reason for grant to tell players to pass up open shots....matter of fact throughout the season, many of the players took those open shots...they just didn't hit them...which in turn gets in their head and they don't wanna take another one because they feel they're gonna miss so they work for a higher percentage shot <---thats what i believe is the reason for the passing up open shots, its a confidence thing

So It is not the coaches job to instill confidence in his players. His pattern of playing players suggest he takes playing time from players based on having a few bad games shooting. You can't restrict offensive players because it does affect their confidence and it makes them hesitant. Hesitation in basketball means the defense has time to catch up. Watch any game and I dare you to look at anyone on the team other than Trevor who had and green light at any time.

you're right it is the coaches job to try to instill confidence but in my opinion, confidence is not coachable....its something you have to have in yourself....you can't tell someone to be confident....

regarding him taking playing time away from players based on having a few bad games shooting, i don't see evidence of this however...and i've never coached before but i'm pretty sure if a player is having a bad shooting night, you take him out the game because he is hurting more than helping and you put someone else in to give someone else a try.......

trevor didn't have a "green light"...he was confident in his shot so he took it....so did shannon hale....rodney and levi never had confidence all season....look at their numbers from behind the arc....coach didn't do that...he can't put the ball in the basket for them....yes levi eventually started finding his shot late in the season so he started shooting more but if you look at the tape, those are the same shots he was taking earlier in the season that weren't falling then

I would imagine the coach to change his game plan to fit the players strengths as much as he can without compromising his belief in the system he implemented when he came here. He finally has a class that he envisioned for the first time in five years to fully execute his idea

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see there are issues on the team. When you actually go to games and see the interaction of the players, and coaches when they are not on TV, you see they are not all on the same page. Unlike many who seem to feel that it was the right decision who have zero invested in the team and don't see a game other than on TV. I see almost every game in person other than when I have a conflict.

I said last year at this time we would be right back where we were then. I was wrong we are far worse. Do we really expect that the result is going to be different with no changes in philosophy or the staff? I saw the same team issues during the end of CMG reign and we see how that turned out even though most of CMG's issue were off the court. I will say he was much more of an active coach who at least sought out the support of the fans. I honestly hope CAG turns it around, but I just don't see it. He has had 5 and now 6 years which is more than his record deserves. Regardless, I will be there to support the kids.

It seems to me that recruiting a top flight class as coach Grant did when he brought in Cooper, Randolph, Lacy and others that year, just didn't pan out for one reason or the other. With the turnover you have in basketball failed classes are killers, just look at Kentucky last year. I think some times a highly ballyhooed class has an opposite outcome than what you expect it would. Guys come in believing the hype and when things don't start out gang busters they get down on themselves. Once that happens it can linger until they move on to another team, say the pro's.

Without all the accolades of greatness following them and high expectations, they can regain their confidence and actually turn around their careers and become what folks expected of them in the first place. I really don't know what a coach can do to keep situations like that from happening, considering you never know how a player will do at the next level when recruiting him. Its really a crap shoot at times. Sometimes those classes work out like the one Calipari recruited that won the national championship a few years ago at Kentucky.

Recruiting is all on the coaches though and I am glad coach Grant is being given another year.

When Grant was hired, a few folks who bleed Crimson conferred with NBA-affiliated folks who bled likewise before we popped champagne corks in anticipation of the consensus being that 'Bama under Grant would get to the Final Four within four years. Methinks our more realistic expectations right now are that Grant will have 'Bama back in the Sweet 16 in his 16th season...

Personally, I hate seeing those "basketball schools" like Florida continue to win and win big, while the PTB just watch and do nothing.

Not a soul on this board disagree with the part in bold, but the problem is here is there are no easy solutions. This isn't like firing Mike Shula when you know that Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino and Rich Rodriguez are all available.

Yeah, I know that I'm preaching to the choir. Frustration gets the best of me.

I ran into CAG today in a restaurant as he was walking out. I said hey coach and shook his hand and said good luck with the team. I always thought he was somewhat shy. But didn't realize how bad shy he is in public until this encounter. He seemed genuinely frightened when I spoke to him it's almost as if he didn't want me to recognize him. It was just one of those hey how doing type moments when you are going in the bank or barbershop.

I really want him to do well but I can tell you he is not going to be the type guy who will promote our program on any level that will generate any attention.

Unfortunately he better recruit and coach his butt off because that is the only thing he has going for him - cause he ain't going to rack up many points in the helluva guy category.
