The good - we won, we didn’t give up (well, some of us….)
The bad - need more consistency, better playcalling, better O line
The ugly - we are not an intelligent team. One of the key components of our success for awhile (this got worse in the final years of Saban) was we RARELY made monumental blunders like stupid, no reason for it penalties or obviously botched coverages. But not only do we do that - it is a lack of discipline, but I’m not sure how much of that is related to coaching in this instance how much of it is unfamiliarity due to things like NIL of the portal - but we do other things that stand out as self-defeating.
Two of them we did many times tonight:
1) not running as much time off before a snap when Oklahoma’s only chance coming back, depending upon time being on the clock (this cost us at least part the 2022 Tennessee game)
2) a clearly disputable play that might go to review, but it’s in our favor, and then we rush up to the line like we’re in a hurry up and can stop it, and then waste 15 seconds or so to give them a chance to stop the game for review instead of just snapping the ball.
As I said during the game thread, we just had the ball off anyway, and usually take a loss on first down and then the one time we’re not willing to call that is when it might save us losing the ball or at least yardage.
