The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly…. Sooner part Deux:

G- We won. We made the plays we had to make. We got the OU monkey off our back. Roll Tide!
B- We have so many problems that should be corrected by now.
U- RW2 couldn't catch the flu. Surely we have other receivers who can actually catch.

Good: Last 3 quarters. Great catches by WRs. Defense after 1st quarter. NOT calling the goofy slow-developing trick plays that cost us yards and a down. Minimal penalties. Ty when he had time to see the field.

Bad: 1st quarter.

Ugly: OL's inability to open holes for the RBs. OL's inability to protect Ty without providing TE or RB help.

In terms of the good, I want to give huge kudos to Coach DeBoer. He truly does get results when he goes for it on 4th down. I also give him much of the credit for the team not quitting.

It is redundant to talk about how hard it is to replace Nick Saban. My thing is that Coach DeBoer can be regarded as a great coach. The team could have tanked after that Florida State debacle and the refused to, and much credit must go to the coach and his staff.

I was admittedly skeptical of him at first. Who wouldn't be after Saban? Now, I am fully in his corner and my hope is that he stays in Tuscalossa.

RTR 4EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In game coaching is just part of this. I’m tired of looking like we are winging it.

Saban wasn’t the best in game adjuster, but he was going to come out and crush your soul early and put you in a hole.

I hear ya, but how many coaches will look good when compared to Saban? I mean really. Kirby perhaps. Who else?
As I said, it took me a while to get used to DeBoer. Now I just hope that the Michigan rumors are false.
ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Ugly - The sideline interference I didn't see or understand.

It is the correct call, but…. I have a huge issue of the ref that called it. Mateer was running a “let’s make bama use a time out 3-5 yard play” but it was a ref 15-20 yards down the field running like he had to keep up with a guy streaking down the field who called it. Had it been the ref on the line doing it then I would be far more irate on the coach but this one was more of dummy ref looking to make himself part of the game

The good - we won, we didn’t give up (well, some of us….)

The bad - need more consistency, better playcalling, better O line

The ugly - we are not an intelligent team. One of the key components of our success for awhile (this got worse in the final years of Saban) was we RARELY made monumental blunders like stupid, no reason for it penalties or obviously botched coverages. But not only do we do that - it is a lack of discipline, but I’m not sure how much of that is related to coaching in this instance how much of it is unfamiliarity due to things like NIL of the portal - but we do other things that stand out as self-defeating.

Two of them we did many times tonight:

1) not running as much time off before a snap when Oklahoma’s only chance coming back, depending upon time being on the clock (this cost us at least part the 2022 Tennessee game)

2) a clearly disputable play that might go to review, but it’s in our favor, and then we rush up to the line like we’re in a hurry up and can stop it, and then waste 15 seconds or so to give them a chance to stop the game for review instead of just snapping the ball.

As I said during the game thread, we just had the ball off anyway, and usually take a loss on first down and then the one time we’re not willing to call that is when it might save us losing the ball or at least yardage.
#2 destroys me. GET ON THE LINE AND SNAP THE FREAKING BALL!

You have an audible for everything, have one for you don’t want them to review this play. Dive up the middle, spike the ball, I don’t care! Just make the play nonreviewable.

Good: Ty when when we keep him clean and midgame defensive adjustments.
Bad: Slow starts and situational play calling.
Ugly: Booty shorts on football players.

Who were the two spectators jawing and not watching the game or aware of the official running right at them?
