The look of Coach Shula

People have said CMS has a deer in the headlights look. I do not think so. I think it's the look of a coach who is calm under fire. That is just his style cool, calm, and collected. If you do not have a membership to Crimson Tradition you need to get one. If you do look at all the after the game locker room videos. Even in the locker room he is still calm and laid back. The players respond to this man and his style. I do not think you will ever see CMS in a panic state and I believe this rubs off on the players. No matter the situation these players will play harder for him because of his demeanor. I just think CMS needs time and he will bring us back to where we should be, not to mention he and his staff seem to be great at recruiting. Coach Shula I am behind you 110%. ROLL TIDE

I will be glad when someone coins a new catch phrase.

Sure he does

Cool, calm and collected??? Who are you looking at? Shula always has a look of confusion. It's a family thing also. Did you notice his father doing the hand across the face look? and the picking of the nose?

CMS is by his nature a reserved person. Some people are. Not everyone is like Jim Leavitt or Lou Holtz with their animation. CMS is a good bit like Mark Richt, and doesn't wear his emotions on his sleeve. Nothing wrong with that, thats just the kind of person he is. :BigA:

Or the first man who ever drunk a glass of milk.

Can you imagine the thought process that went into that? It's like...."I'm going to squeeze those things hanging down on that cow, and drink what comes out of it"

Wait a freakin' minute....

Just hold on buster. This is the same Mike Shula who piloted the Crimson Tide to many a victory under his tenure as QB and never once in that time looked dazed, confused or whatever. If you weren't such a moron, you'd recognize the look of someone in deep concentration. If you were ever able to look behind the face mask of any of the great football players at work you'd see that same wide eyed, not blinking concentration. I've seen it a thousand times, Elway, Marino, Farve, Marcus Allen, Bo Jackson and on and on. You every see close ups of Michael Jordan when he's in the zone. Same look. They all have or had it. CMS is coaching with the same intensity he played with and only an ignorant know-nothing would say otherwise. I'm sick of listening to this crap from the mouths of complete idiots.

Dream on. Once a cliche sticks in the throats of sportswriters, 'casters and announcers it's there forever. I'm still waiting for them tio get rid of "He made a wise decision" when a returner takes a knee in the end zone. But if you seek new catch phrases:

Phil Fulmer ---"A hippo hit by a fire hose."

Lou Holtz ---"A wart that wrinkled."

Tommy Tubby ---"Batman with the flaps to prove it."

What the ....???

Can't you people just lay off the man?
What does it matter how he looks...just give him a break and let him coach!
He's willing to take this job in the worst situation any coach could ever come into and he needs time to learn and build. Put yourself in his shoes and see how you would feel.
Please people we all need to just settle down and be patient. After all we are just the fans and fans should show nothing but support.

after a W: "cool, calm, collected"
after a L: "deer in the headlights"

It's just crazy to me. As many have said, it's just not his nature. The way I look at it, he's still learning on the job. And might I add, learning on the job at ALABAMA is pretty challenging. I mean, he's never been an assistant HC on D1, or even a head at ANY level. That being said, he'll probably change his on-field actions over time. On a couple of occasions, he's come close.
The players and staff seem to love him. Recruits and their families some to love him. As Eli said, "trust me, I know him, we have the right man for the job". So, all in all, the "look" really doesn't matter.

On the milk thing...

He probably just looked at the calf and thought "Hey, that thing's alive and I'm about to die!" He probably didn't even bother to try and milk her... :)

Amen

That's what I mean...what does it matter what he looks like.
Why do some people try to use that as a measure for how he coaches.
Give him time and
cut him some slack!
I'm glad we have him because at least we know he truly cares about Alabama
and obviously wants to be at Alabama and we need some stability. We don't need anymore controversy and he has been around football all his life! He probably had a football for a pacifier! I predict that as time goes on and he gets better, as well as the team, he will become somewhat more animated because he will be more comfortable at his position. He has the weight of the world on his shoulders right now. The more we can do as fans by supporting him will take some of that pressure off him.

Pink polka dotted and buck naked...

wouldn't phase me at all, as long as Bama puts numbers in the win column.

Sheesh, get a life...

Oh, by the way, Bama is 4-2 while missing a starting QB and coming off of probation...Things could be worse...

My second favorite coach did not wear his emotions on his sleeve, and he did just fine, Tom Landry. His fire came from making sure his team was prepared to play. Practice, team meetings, film study, game planning. He had character and his players respected him. They knew Coach Landry was not going to rant and rave on the sidelines, but they also knew he had prepared them to play. CMS is not there yet but he is on the way. This could be his style, maby not what we all want but a WINNER nevertheless.
(Mike Ditka played for Landry. go figure)

I don't care how he looks on the sidelines as long as he puts the team in the best position to win football games. There have quite a few times this year he has made some questionable coaching decisions but overall he has done quite well due to the hurdles he has been thrown. Face it, we could be in the same position as State but we aren't.
