The November 4, 2025 National/State/Local Election Thread

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I for one and haopy to see the experiment run. Go with Mamdani principles and let's see how they work. If they work, great, we can try them on a bigger scale. If not, maybe we can tweak or go a different direction. Either way, no skin off my nose.
Provided, of course, that they are allowed to fail if that is the natural result. Having the federal government bail their asses out won't teach them anything.

Election interference! Attack on Democracy! Who would benefit from this though.....hmmm......

EWING TWP., N.J, (WPVI) -- Multiple polling places were temporarily closed on Tuesday morning in New Jersey after precincts fielded emailed bomb threats later deemed to be not credible, prompting election officials to direct some voters to other polling places.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said in part, "law enforcement responded to threats that were received by email" in multiple counties, and that while "polling locations have already reopened" at some, "at others, voters will be directed to a nearby polling location to cast their ballot.

This is why cities and states have to show a little bit of sense in their shenanigans. For the most part you can just up and move to another or state if it gets too crazy. This is why Mamdani's plans for all this free stuff is not going to happen. They don't have the money for it and his idea of "taxing the rich more" is just going to cause those with the financial wherewithall, i.e., the rich, to just up and move. Home prices in CT have already skyrocketed. When you raise prices, or taxes, it doesn't result in a dollar for dollar effect because the base can shrink drastically. For example, a 20% tax increase will not bring in 20% more revenue because people will move. You'll end up with 10% more revenue (don't know actual numbers, just for illustration). Raise it more and you'll end up with an even lower ratio of rates to actual taxes collected.

The problem is NY is full of idiots who either 1) don't understand this or 2) could actually care less since they don't pay taxes anyway. What a great time to live in the Big Apple.

The number 2's from above make up a significant portion of the Democratic voting base.
If the Commie Mamdani wins, the shear failure of New York will be paramount in the lead up to the 28 election. What he’s presenting cannot be funded. Shumer was asked today who he voted for. He wouldn’t say. Barry Obama, Jeffries, skeletor, didn’t endorse him. What does that say?

It is important to note that there are hundreds of cities and states across the US that have retirement plans that are badly underfunded. Not to mention the United States itself. Very little solvency exist at the individual level and governmental level in the US.

CNN exit polls find voters in key races dissatisfied with Trump, concerned with economy

Last November, Donald Trump won a return to the White House amid broad national dissatisfaction with the state of the country. A year later, preliminary CNN exit polling finds, the first major electoral tests of the second Trump presidency take place with voters expressing similar pessimism and anti-incumbent sentiments despite the turnover in the Oval Office.

Across four closely watched contests — the governor’s races in Virginia and New Jersey, the mayoral race in New York City and the redistricting-related Proposition 50 in California — majorities disapprove of Trump, with strong disapproval of his performance far outpacing strong approval. In Virginia, New Jersey and California, roughly half or more of the electorate sees their vote as sending a message to Trump. And that message is largely one of opposition, rather than support.

Agreed. I'm all New Yorkers (and everyone else) doing their own thing and reaping the consequences - good or bad. If the results are good, keep doing it. If the results are bad, hopefully people are smart enough to alter course. (Unfortunately, they don't and double-down on stupid.) I don't think there will be much of a difference In NY though. They've been doing "socialism light" for decades. At least the left is finally honest enough to call it socialism now. Rent control and subsidies/giveaways for all manner of things have been the rule for generations. Good luck with their faith in government. This would be the same government that spends $2,000,000 on a bathroom.

And that was from eight years ago; now it's closer to $3,000,000.

I always wonder if populists like Madmani are really that stupid to believe in what they are shoveling. They certainly know that enough of the voters are. Socialist populism offers two things many people desire - free stuff and a way to channel their jealously against successful people.

NY has been losing people and businesses for a while, and that will continue.

I think it’s worth separating slogans from what’s actually happening. New York has certainly invested more in public programs than many other states, but calling it “socialism light” oversimplifies a pretty complex mix of policies that have been in place for generations under both Democratic and Republican leadership.

There are legitimate criticisms to be made about government waste and inefficiencies — the bathroom project you mentioned is a good example, and New York absolutely needs to manage costs better. But that’s a problem of bureaucracy and procurement, not proof that any investment in public services is doomed or “socialist.” Red and blue states alike struggle with waste; it isn’t unique to New York or to one ideology.

As for the “people and businesses are leaving” narrative, it’s true that New York has experienced population loss in recent years, but the picture isn’t as one-directional as it’s often portrayed. Many of the state’s economic indicators — including GDP — continue to grow. New York’s economy remains one of the largest and most productive in the country, which suggests the situation is more nuanced than “policies are driving everyone away.”

Reasonable people can debate which policies help or hurt, and adjustments are always needed. But framing it as a simple choice between “socialism” and collapse doesn’t leave much room for a practical conversation about what’s working, what isn’t, and how to improve outcomes going forward.
