Buying milk at the grocery store is really starting to make me think that the milk companies are taking a hint from oil companies. Why is milk so expensive?:conf2:
Bingo. The government mandated ethanol additive has driven up the price of corn which raises prices down the line on other related goods.corn=ethanol=high milk prices. cows eat corn, silage actually.
A year ago, I could get milk locally for $2.30 a gallon. Now, it's a dollar higher (or more).I sort of deal in food and related stuff.
Ice cream - going way up.
We've been discussing milk prices lately. Some stores close to the Outer Banks are around $4.19 a gallon.
Corn oil is used in a lot of food processing. Expect food prices to increase dramatically - and it's not oil company style profits being produced.
I haven't seen it that low in 15+ years - around here . :redface:A year ago, I could get milk locally for $2.30 a gallon. Now, it's a dollar higher (or more).
I figured it was a combination of high fuel prices and the demand for corn.....ethanol and high feed prices due to the demand for corn in ethanol.
Corn is an ingredient for so much of what we use....sweeteners, additives, etc.
It was $2.99 a gallon at Bruno's in Dothan when I lived there in '97.I haven't seen it that low in 15+ years - around here .
Used to have a sponsor who would run Barber's for a $1.99 a gallon special back in like '87-'94 and that was always the best price in town . We heard hikes were coming 4 years back and it took 2 years to happen but , as mentioned above , things have topped & dropped here in Montgomery . However , due to fuel costs , some services like the gas company have gone to a 4 day work week .It was $2.99 a gallon at Bruno's in Dothan when I lived there in '97.
For whatever they say about the cost of living in that part of the state, their food prices were pretty high. Plus, you paid sales tax on food.
Ice-cream makers frozen out as corn price risesI sort of deal in food and related stuff.

I wonder if an outcry will start over the price of food now. Corn-based Ethanol has helped drive the price up of gas and now common food items. What’s the connection between ethanol, the biofuel produced from corn, and a cherry vanilla ice-cream?
Answer: the first is responsible for pushing up the price of the other.
