We opened with a beatdown in the biggest game of the opening week of the season and concluded it with a beatdown in the biggest game of the entire year! On top of that:

We smoked everyone else except our two biggest rivals (Viles and Aubie)
We crushed all of our two biggest rival's hopes and dreams in the final seconds
We made Tebow cry and Meyer quit (for a second)
Ingram brought the Heisman to Titletown
And of course we brought home #13!!!

Other than that, the season was just ok. ;)

Roll Tide Roll!!!

I was younger in the 70's when Bama totally dominated the college football landscape, but it's hard to believe Bama has had any season that tops all the things that happened this year. 1992 was great when we beat Miami when no one thought we could do it, and that was one heck of a defense that year too.

BCS title
SEC title
Heisman winner
Record amount of All-Americans
Many Bama players made all SEC honors
So many moments that where just great, and I loved how this team played as one

This has been one heck of a year for Bama football, and it was something special to watch. The way we won our rival games couldn't have been written better if a Hollywood made a picture about those two games.
* 2 FG's blocks in the 4th quarter by Mt. Cody was a awesome feeling. My wife & I did high fives for many minutes after all that, and she had tears in her eyes too. Sure winning 12-3 would've been cool, but now those FG's blocks will live on in Bama history forever
* A long sloooooow painful drive to stick a stake right through Aubarn's heart. Plus, they had their moral victory to hang their hat on afterwards when they thought they stopped Ingram from winning the Heisman. That blew up in their face.....LOL

What a special season this has been..... :)

When you look at the fact that Alabama won the national championship, had six All-Americans, the Heisman winner, the Butkus winner and became only the third team in college football history to go 14-0, it would be hard to argue this is not the greatest season in Alabama Football history.

When you talk to your grandchildren about all of the great things associated with this Bama team, they are going to swear that you are exaggerating - so many were the feats accomplished by so many different players in so many circumstances. Not too long ago, any one of these things would have made us swell up with pride. To have them all take place in the same season is almost unbelievable.

The stuff of legends...

I am worried about the "here" and "now". They do not put hitches or luggage racks on a hearse. Respect and learn from the past (history), but CPB could not have accomplished what CNS was able to deliver in 3 short years. He delivered. CNS is The GREATEST COACH in NCAA college football history.

Bury the dead...they stink up the place.

Slow down there my Crimson brother. We had a great season but lets not forget Coach Bryant won 6 National Titles in a 19 year span at Alabama. We all love Coach Saban but Coach Bryant was the best.

Exactly. Coach Bryant won the National Championship in just 3 years also. The 1961 wasn't as decorated, but they were WAY more dominate than this team. They have up 25 points all year! Both are great coach's but coach Bryant's accomplishments will most likely never be equaled by anybody. I'd love Coach Saban to prove me wrong though!:)

When you look at the season as a whole from the standpoint of individual awards, the Heisman, the Butkus, the All-American honors, the All-SEC honors, etc. I think you can make an arguement that this is the greatest season in Alabama football history as a whole.

Where I have a problem is singling this national championship team out over the previous twelve national championship teams in Alabama history. I can't do that. The previous Alabama teams that won national championships have earned their place in history and I cannot do or say anything to diminish that. As we've discussed many times, it's very difficult to compare teams and players from different eras.

I remember the '78, '78 and '92 national championships very well and now Alabama has won the national championship in '09. They all feel great to me. I can't distinguish one from the other.

All thirteen teams that have won national championships have a special place in Alabama football history IMO.

As I said in another thread, this may not be the best season ever for everyone, but it is for me. Reasons:

1. 14 and 0 best record ever.
2. Mark Ingram's heisman was won in a way that makes us Alabama fans proud, a true team player.
3. We beat Texas. As I said in another thread this is personal for me. I will never forget the disappointment from 73.
4. We are undisputed National Champions

and most important for me:

5. For the first time since I was a kid I feel that our program is in the best of hands, that we can win every game, that we will be in contention for championships every year.

I do not think as a fan I can feel better than I do right now about our team and the immediate future.

Heads up!!!

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt (one time and one time only) that "bury the dead...they stink up the place" is not referring to Coach Bryant. We're all excited that we just won a national title and emotions are still running a bit high. However, lets not get stupid....

Seems like I remember there were no limit to the amount of recruits we could have in 58 and CPB got nearly all the good ones. When he ran the 3rd string out on the field they were as good as the 1st.

I think you have a lot to learn about Alabama football and Alabama fans. I was a mere child when Coach Bryant came home to Alabama. All through my childhood and on into my adult life, Coach Bryant was here, larger than life. Coach Bryant led Alabama to six National Championships while he was here. He was Coach of The Decade for the '70s. Coach Bryant is one of the most important figures in Alabama football history. There's a reason the football stadium on campus is named Bryant-Denny stadium.

This was a great season, and will have to admit I was very pleased with the stand up guys in all of their interviews. There were no arrogant, better than thou, responses. There were no "Me" and "I" responses in the interviews. It was a team effort by all and it was reflected as such by all that had a say so about it. That is good for all!

Dude...

This is The University of Alabama. It is, and always has been, bigger than one man. Coach Saban simply joins a short list of men that have taken the program to the top. What he was able to accomplish--through his team--can never be diminished. But, neither can it be elevated to the point that his legacy exceeds that of the men that did it before him. At some point in the future, another man will again lead this program to the top, and he will also join that elite group. But when the last chapter is finally written, no one man will ever be able to say that this is his legacy, and not Alabama's.

Now, go forth and sin no more.
