Thoughts on Jimbo's O against Clemson

It's called ranking by reputation alone. Same thing happened with Notre Dame until this year.
Exactly. Sad, but true. FSU was ranked No. 9 when they played Clemson last year and we all saw how that turned out.

Anyway, I didn't think that Jimbo's offense looked good at all, but FSU's defense is what stood out to me in the second half. They made some adjustments during halftime and came out and shut Clemson out in the second half. It seemed to me that FSU has got excellent speed on defense. Also, did anyone else notice the jump FSU's defensive linemen were getting on the snap? I thought they would be called for offsides on several plays, but they never did. Maybe they were just doing a good job of anticipating the snap or Clemson's QB is just slow getting out from under the center.

To be honest, I liked Jimbo's play-calling, just seemed to me like no one on FSU's offense had seen a football in their lifetime (till the second half). I agree that the o-line struggled almost all game (and hopefully will continue to stuggle!), but kinda picked it up in the second half. Hopefully, all of these problems will continue until after we play them:biggrin2::biggrin2:.

Well, I think FSU is beatable. And I also think I'm glad that we have Major & not Jimbo. FSU had some good adjustments made, but still...if we continue to get better each week, I'm thinking Jacksonville will be an AWESOME game! :pDT_ura1:

I thought that the game was weird. Clemson dominated the first half but FSU dominated the second have. Their O-line is young however, and although I want to say that I feel a little bit better about the Bama-FSU game, I'm going to wait because I'm also waiting to see how we do against Vandy this weekend. I think we'll win that game but the WCU win (for me) is taken with a grain of salt.

To tell you the truth I didn't see any difference in the Offensive play calling last night and that of the past years under Jeff.

If the same FSU team that played Clemson shows up to play Bama, we will smoke them by 10 points.

That being said, I imagine it was first game jitters and FSU will get better as the season goes on.

I must say, I was kind of surprised to see FSU struggle so badly. But, it's the first game with the new OC.

Now, if (and hopefully when by the time Bama plays them) they continue to play like that, then some red flags will have to go up in Tallahassee.

On a side note, it was strange to see Chuck Amato next to Bowden again on the sideline.

Anybody else glad we got Major Applewhite? :) Honestly, I'm sure execution will improve, as well as the scoring in upcoming games.

That's very true but they also didn't have Jimbo Fischer as OC. It will take some time but I think he will bring this team up. Let's just hope it's not in time for the Bama game.
i think the biggest difference is that Jimbo doesn't have the experience on the oline like we do, he's starting a couple of freshmen and that's never a good thing. Also we have a good bit more offensive fire power and a couple of dependable QBs while FSU still can't decide if its up to Weatherford or Lee.

A lot of LSU fans...this one included...have been screaming that JF wasn't why LSU had a great offense the past few years. He's not terrible, but whenever someone would say "with all that talent, LSU should have won an NC"...my answer was and still is, Jimbo Fisher is the reason we didn't. Even when we did win it in '03, it certainly didn't have anything to do with the offense. If anything, that was the worst offense we had...talent wise...so maybe the defense KNEW they had to win it...and they did.

FSU's offense looked a lot like LSU's of the past several years last night...except our receivers could catch the friggin ball, and our QB couldn't be sacked.

I'm confused about why FSU is supposed to be highly ranked this year. They have players that were 7-6 last year with some new coaches. We have players that were 6-7 last year and a new coaching staff. I see them having a record similar to ours(7 or 8 wins) at the end of the year-not a 10 or 11 win season like some have predicted. Adding Fisher, Trickett, and Amato doesn't change the fact that FSU doesn't have the talent this year that they used to have. Jimbo won't be out there blocking or throwing the ball.

Maybe you guys were right about Jimbo...he deserves a little time though, he's working with a horrible quarterback.

1. ESPN had them as one of the overrated teams this year.

2. An LSU Tidefans member last evening called it when he said it "Is more about the Jimmy's and Joe's, than X's and O's! I don't pay much attention to the Rival's and Scout rating systems. The game is played on the field and players have to execute.

I'm just glad I was on record as highly opposed to his potential hiring at the UofA .

That was me!!!!!

Really though, you have to have good coaching, but I think having great players is more important than anything. Look at how hard Coach Saban recruits, he know it. I've seen plenty of talented teams make a coach look good, and the same coach look like a loser. The coach probably didn't get dumber, it's the players!!!
