A vigil is planned for this evening at Brooks County High School in memory of three football players killed Tuesday.

Jicarre Watkins, Shawn Waters and Johnie Parker died when their SUV slammed into a tree around 9:30AM on North Webster Street in Quitman, as they were returning from an early morning football practice.

Another teammate, De'Vron Whitfield, was critically injured and airlifted from the scene to Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

This could have been me at 16, if I had been driving an SUV instead of a car.

this happened about 20 miles from where I live. The sheriff said it was worse than he has seen in 29 years. Prayers to the family and community.

Wait till you get the call that they've had an accident (very minor, nobody injured, the other car was barely damaged). Blah, I couldn't see, think, your heart pounds, very scary experience.
