Recruiting: Tide landing top commits early - Tide Corner - al.com
It's that time of year when recruiting starts to take a backseat to the real thing. Yet, Tide football enthusiast have to be awestruck at the job Saban and company has done for 2010. When Nick Saban was hired in 2007 the general consensus of recruiting experts was he would take over the state of Alabama. His next calculated move would be to branch out nationally. He's now been on the job for two and one-half years and it's obvious the "process" is going according to plan. The proof is always in the pudding folks. After only one full month on the job he put a staff together and landed the number ten ranked class in the country. What has he done since then? Not much. Just two recruiting national titles and working on a possible third. Not bad for his second year on the job.
Yet, to a trained eye, this year's class is shaping up differently. Why? The recruits are committing MUCH earlier. Not just any recruits, but the same caliber the Capstone is getting used to seeing. Coach Saban, read my lips, slow down!!! What is the average recruiting nut going to do once February 2010 rolls around? Apparently if they're Alabama fans they will be celebrating during Christmas 2009. Maybe instead of recruiting services actually evaluating players they could call Saban. It would save time, money, and probably be more accurate.
