The only strings that "should" be attached are the use of the players name, image or likeness...

Yes. I would love to actually see where his "name, image, or likeness" is actually being used out in the market. That's what whoever put up the cash is paying for, correct? Or, are they only paying for the "rights" to use their name, image, and likeness should they choose to. This whole thing is just way out of control.

Well now Boston College’s portal opened up nothing great there but I noticed one of the leading candidates is BOB.

That's exactly what should happen along with restitution to Bama and serious penalties against Iowa. As I stated in the other thread, this is low hanging fruit and the NCAA should make the most of it. Both Iowa and Proctor have already admitted the violations. What a gift.

Admission and self reporting should be taken into consideration, but it should not absolve a penalty being handed down. Personally, they reached out to him, and the penalty should be to them, not Proctor on an individual level. But, the penalty should have teeth in the form of an immediate bowl ban for 2024 and a significant monetary penalty owed to the University of Alabama.

Not sure if this should qualify as self reporting when everyone else already knew about it.

I do think Proctor should have some penalty. Not a full season maybe, but several games. He knew they should not be contacting him, and that it was a violation. He should have reported the contact to Alabama's compliance folks to pass along to the NCAA as soon as it happened and Iowa should have then been prohibited from signing him.

Self reporting means you admitted guilt to the NCAA before they officially initiated an accussation they suspect you've committed. It's not that other parties know, but the formal process of the NCAA "knowing".
Yep - every school self reports a number of these types of things every year. It is, essentially impermissible contact. There are many types - this is one.

I thinks that's fair. Suspend him three games which amounts to 25% of the season.

I understand what it means. What I meant was that they should give them zero relief for self reporting in this case. They basically had no choice since the player posted it on social media.
