I wonder if it would be within the rules for when a player gets an offer for better money… for the former coach to pick up the difference. Offer only good the first transition year.

Hot take......classify the players as employees and have them sign contracts. If another team wants them, they have to buy them out, similar to a coach's buyout.

Maybe that will curtail some of this stuff, because the NCAA sure isn't going to do anything.
I think eventually this is where it's headed...............and once they sign those contracts, they will see how good they had it before

Yes, I agree, but a "governing body" has to put it in place. Isn't that the NCAA's job IF THEY DO IT??

This new world of transfer portal went from empowering college football players....to entitling them. If there is one demographic in this country that can turn off a lot of an audience, it would have to be rich, entitled, college athletes....I'm not sure how long fans will continue to support the sport with some of these kids coming across as "unlikeable"....I think the sport as a whole is sitting on a bubble that's waiting to burst....and disenfranchised fans/audience members will likely be the first step in bursting that bubble....because once fan support starts to waver, well then so too would viewership numbers....if viewership goes down well then what happens to all of the TV money if the networks aren't getting the expected return on investment???

I don't fault UGA or any other school for going for Downs or any other player or our coaches. The fact is, we have done the same, though not quite at this level, but will probably do it in the not so distant future, but most importantly, I don't fault them because it's within the rules.

It's ridiculous and adds to the silliness that the game is becoming. The reality is that UGA and Texas will stockpile this talent right now, then come spring, some of these players will realize that they aren't going to get on the field in the fall and there will be an exodus, and so the vicious cycle will continue.

Where does it stop? At some point there has to be a group in power who says "you know, this doesn't feel right." Maybe the interest of fans starts to wane and ratings go down. Maybe only then will someone take action.

Yes, you are correct there, Tideflyer. All of this hand wringing going on isn’t accomplishing anything but I’m doing it too.
Yes, it is indeed useless hand wringing, but I think subconsciously it`s occurring due to the feeling that we may be watching something truly special, that was crafted over a 17 year period, being unraveled over a 30 day or so period. It`s a very uncomfortable feeling when you`re pretty much only left with the hope that your fears are misplaced and overblown and that it won`t be that bad. As if that`s not enough, I think we`re all distraught at watching the as of yet unfettered destruction of the game we all have come to love over most of our times on the planet.

No argument from me.

Let them go....all of them that dont want to be a Bama player. When someone shows you who they really are believe them - Maya Angelou...holds true for the portal. If they arent 100% vesting in being part of the Bama legacy, go get paid and disappear...adios. Give me 22 starters that want to be here and win for the program!

So - how does this not trigger class action discrimination claims against the university from students who are not athletes?
Something like that is going to have to happen to get this thing fixed. I don’t see how these players are staying academically eligible with how this is playing out.
