Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

I think the "good news" CKD spoke about at the basketball game is probably the players he knows that will transfer from Washington.

And the starting center might be the biggest of these although that receiver can probably easily soften the blow IB's leaving made.
Is there confirmation on the center coming to Bama?

In the long run, I'm exponentially more concerned about recruiting at a high level than about the current transfer exodus. That was going to happen to some extent and would only have been stemmed substantially by someone like Kirby or Sark - neither of which was a realistic possibility. If we can reel the decommits back in and keep rolling in recruiting, we'll be fine. Gotta play the long game here knowing there might be some short-term pain.

Unfortunately, Nick was the best in the business in recruiting. Maybe he can give our new coach some pointers but doubt we will ever reach that level again, at least, not in the short term.

I'm thinking I may start making more Saturday afternoon plans in the fall than I used to. That's a bonus.
I've still watched Bama games the last few years, but I haven't watched many other college football games. I don't just think the NIL and transfer portal are stupid; I can't stand how they use replay and call targeting. The main point is, however, I haven't missed the other games at all. I will have a rich, full life with or without college football.

It’s not just Downs and Mr Lookout Block Proctor, we’ve lost 4-5 players to FSU who recently has been accused and are about to be sanctioned due to nefarious actions involved in their NIL collective. Am I not correct in thinking this?

I think their issue wasn’t for tampering, it was because a coach drove a recruit to meet the head of the collective or something along those lines.

Something like that is going to have to happen to get this thing fixed. I don’t see how these players are staying academically eligible with how this is playing out.
You know, come to think of it, when was the last time you heard of a player having to sit out due to grades? I don`t think that happens much anymore ( if at all ), particularly at the " blue bloods " of college football.

I'm still see many comments on Reddit and other boards about how Bama players have been taking less NIL $ to play for Saban and now the Saban discount is gone, and they are looking for more $$.

So, not only does CKD have to try and recruit these guys again, he also has to try and convince boosters to pay up. I think many boosters are still in shock and haven't wrapped their head around the new reality. If Bama can't find the NIL money than recruiting is going to take a big hit. From my point of view, CKD is struggling with his first big test as the Bama HC. Which is trying to find the NIL money to hold on to some of these guys. Maybe he is not too worried and is that confident in his coaching ability. He might be content to settle for fewer 4 and 5* recruits and coach them up to win, like he did at Washington. I'm not sure that can work in the SEC.

You can sign a top 25 class nationally and be the 13th best in the SEC.

It won't work, IMO.

Well our boosters aren’t really what many people think they are. Instead of these fat cats that people think they are they are mostly middle class people who just want a tad more access to the program than the average fan.

The truth is that in many ways the Alabama fandom has become satisfied with the product and has actively fought back against Bryne’s plans to expand it. Right now it’s either every true fan contributes something or it’s going to be a long process back in recruiting.

The one thing to remember here is that every team still operates under the 85 limit for scholarships (or less if on probation). It’s not like every one of these players that have hit the portal will even find a D1 school. Granted, some will have the room and some will figure out how to make the room for guys like Proctor and Downs, but many of these guys will end up hurting themselves by ending up a a place they didn’t necessarily want to be.
What is this “probation” thing you speak about?

We have a window to get some Arizona, Washington, USA, Buffalo players. If Harbaugh leaves, then Michigan.
There's not a single player on the Michigan roster that can fill the shoes of Caleb Downs.
I know we'll win with or without you, but sometimes we won't.

I'm being dramatic but just wake me up when september ends and we have an actual team put together. I hate this.
