Recalibration is an understatement. More like expectations need to go out the window. But this is a really good coach and he has hired a pretty darn good looking staff so far. Still got a roster stocked better than about 90% of the teams out there. Hey, this is all gravy right now compared to the trajectory had we hired a lesser coach. Surprisingly, the immediate future is looking pretty good.A few thoughts as our world crumbles.
The "skinny" picture of Mack doesn't do him justice. The kid is a load. Maybe it was a "you shop, we shop" deal with Sayin.
It's hard not to feel a little like late-80's SMU right now except we're being punished not for cheating, but because our coach retired.
I always expected Bama to take a step back when Saban left - this insane portal policy (only 20 days left, y'all!) has guaranteed it will happen sooner rather than later. DeBoer is adept at using the portal, but we have to wait till the end of spring practice before we can fully fill any talent gaps.
I respect DeBoer even more for taking this job on the heels of Saban's retirement when you factor in this hideous unlimited free agency situation. A recalibration of our expectations for this season is probably in order. I think CKD gets the job done and done well over time. I hear he's a Saban-level grinder.
Roll Tide anyway.
Preach it CA. I'm right there with you bro.DeBoer doens't have to create a culture here like Saban did, he's inheriting one.
Sure, the learning curve combined with the tough schedule means Bama might drop a few games, but with DeBoer's history of turning teams around, inheriting this kind of talent with incredible coaches (remember, Saban had Major Applewhite as his OC in 2007 - DeBoer has a *slight* upgrade there...) I'd also not be surprised to see Bama come out this fall breathing fire and flat-out scorching teams. Still a TON of talent on the roster...
Booker and Roberts are a heck of a foundation to build off. If we get the center from UW, that should be an upgrade over what we had. Pritchett was likely gonna be starting at RT next season, and he's staying. He'll probably swap over to LT. That just leaves us needing a RT. If we don't already have someone on the roster that is viable, I expect CKD will hit the Spring portal to fill that role.True to an extent. But the OL has now lost 3 of 5 starters, hard to lose much else. Seth and Proctor have transferred, Latham decided to go pro. That leaves us with Booker and Roberts, who seem bought in.
There is no right answer, you still have roster attrition if Saban announces week 1 or after the Rose Bowl. Everybody has a theory about what should have been done but it’s done. Coach Saban decided it was time and all you can do move quickly to get things in place in which it’s largely been done in 1 week. Let the spring and early summer come and you’ll see where the ship is headedSo what is/was the “right” way to handle all this? I see this comment time and time again that everything has been done “wrong” yet no one wants to say what “should” have been done.
Yea, could be your fault as well. Blathering nonsense is your prerogative. In my opinion Saban is responsible for this entire mess. What did he expect was going to happen with such an abrupt and unanticipated announcement on retirement. How many times did you hear him say that are consequences to your actions. OK, so he wanted to retire. Had he put a little thought into it and gone about the announcement differently we might not be losing half the team. Also Byrne hiring a relatively unknown from the other side of the country was no help. I still can't believe Saban voiced opposition to the person that been given the job. We all know the job should have been offered first and foremost to Lane Kiffin. Now we have to deal with this nonsensical NCAA rule regarding coaches leaving. There is nothing prohibiting the entire team from transferring.

Kiffin never was an option due to his own indiscretions the last time he was here. GMAC said it and many others that know what things went on. It doesn't matter who we want them to hire.In my opinion Saban is responsible for this entire mess. Alphonse Taylor comments were right on. Said it's not about winning anymore. Was not understanding of transferring players.I didn't think much of it. Marlon was just being honest about what he would have done as a teenager with all the money being thrown around. It would have been too much to turn down. Whether or not he would have actually left is debatable. But no doubt the NFL guys are loving this money being thrown around and wishing they could have had it so good.
I think if your going to blame someone a large chunk of the blame should go to jimmy Sexton, I think there has been a plan in place way before we heard about it.In my opinion Saban is responsible for this entire mess. Dude is a troll. You can see them a mile away. They are all a bunch of wannabes man. Already butt hurt that they will more than likely get their arses handed to them on the gridiron by us this year...again.Well... Eeyore, I'm just glad you weren't calling the shots![]()

Reading comments from Booker, Roberts, Moore, and Lawson that may be exactly what happensPreach it CA. I'm right there with you bro.
Based on what?Looks like DeBoer may have taken Mack before Sayin bolted, understanding the risks with Sayin. I appreciate the balls behind that move, if true.
other random internet sources which i wouldnt begin to vouch for.Based on what?
Doesn't matter anyways as we need guys that want to play for Bama...![]()
To continue the NS break from the hand wringing. Fans of this music need to check out the documentary "Immediate Family" , it chronicles the journey of this group of amazing studio musicians; Leland Sklar, Russ Kunkel, Danny 'Kootch' Kortchmar, and Waddy Wachtell, integral to some of the finest music of the the 70/80's forward. So is Leland Sklar - goodness!
Proctor was gone anyway and it’s best McLaughlin moved on. The core is intact.True to an extent. But the OL has now lost 3 of 5 starters, hard to lose much else. Seth and Proctor have transferred, Latham decided to go pro. That leaves us with Booker and Roberts, who seem bought in.
I am hoping that Deboer is the old school guy that he seems to be and that he will not be held hostage by these players and their handlers. If you want to be at Bama and work hard to win and prepare yourself for your future, come on in and let's get to work. If you want to play games and constantly be angling for more money, head to other places. It really is that simple. ROLL TIDE!Looks like DeBoer may have taken Mack before Sayin bolted, understanding the risks with Sayin. I appreciate the balls behind that move, if true.
