My thoughts are the portal rule regarding HC changes is a real disservice to the players/student athletes. Couple things (1) it seems like a tremendous win for everyone in the game that is operating far on the fringes and/or unethically (2) we should remember that many of these guys aren't really equipped to make life-changing decisions at the drop of a hat and, at that point, they don't even know what their options are.

My suggestion would be that the portal open for 2/3/4 weeks but not until 2/3/4 weeks after the coach leaves. Old coach leaves, new coach comes in, everyone has time to evaluate and make thoughtful decisions. Just my two cents.

The tampering would still occur.

Looks like Wommack wants to bring an Alfa with him too:

We apparently sent an offer to Khalil Jacobs who was in the portal with South Alabama. He wasn’t a big recruit but must be someone the new DC likes with his time there coaching him.

He coached him there and and is now the Bama DC so he must believe he could help the Bama defense.

Just like DeBoer bringing in key pieces that will help him implement his offense, Wommack would bring this guy in for continuity purposes. More than just added depth, the kid knows what coach wants and can be a coach on the field helping other players.

What appears to be happening is CKD is implementing the same blue print he did when hired at UW and that is bring in people who already know his system in order to keep from having the first year "down year" where it takes everybody a full season to learn his system. Granted, it may suck for the guys already at Bama who are forced to start from scratch, but this game is about winning, not being "fair".

As my wife tells her 3rd grade students when they tell her "that's not fair!".....The "fair" comes in October.

Absolutely correct and your wife is a genius!

I believe there is wide agreement on here that BOB as offensive coordinator is a QB killer. Sayin and family will likely rue the day they signed with Ohio State.
Lol I was actually reading that he supposedly loves BoB, and that was the main reason he signed with Ohio State, since he was originally signed to play for Saban and BoB. Seems weird to me, but i suppose I could see the pitch. "I coached Tom Brady and Bryce Young".

I tell my high school us history students,”if you want fair, move to cuba and they will take everything you own away to give to the more deserving….. be careful what you ask for!“

I'm trying to think that way for the coaches bringing guys in, but this one is a head scratcher to me. Despite what the article says about this guy playing the nickel/husky role, he was listed as an LB (the Husky's are listed as Safeties) on the USA roster, his bio talks about playing LB, and a depth chart had him as a MikeLB. I have a hard time thinking this guy is really going to compete with Lawson and/or Campbell for an ILB type role. On3 and Rivals don't even have profiles on him, and 247 barely has any info - he was outside of the top 100 position rankings and his only other offer listed was Gardner-Webb...

If he is visiting UA then it is because Wommack prompted him to. Maybe coach thinks the guy can play...maybe at another position at UA, like Safety.

He has an offer from Arkansas too in the portal, so we're not the only team who thinks he can play in the SEC.

i had a co-worker today say these words "Look how bad Bryce was in Carolina without Bill O'Brien". I laughed for 30 minutes.

There are a surprising number of NFL players that come from back grounds and schools just like you describe. Maybe he is one of those dudes.

I get what you're saying, but there's a lot of NFL players who weren't rated high coming out of HS. Played at smaller schools and blossomed into studs. Maybe he will be one of them?
