It's a shame that Greg Byrne didn't hire you. What we certainly don't need to be doing is insulting the coaches and the guys who choose to play here. This kid may turn out to be a solid player, or he may be a coach on the field type of guy who is a great leader. Either way, it's the decision of the coaches.

He also maybe the player who helps the rest of the defensive players learn the system faster and it not take a full season and three to four losses to boot.

I guess we will see. He didn't have any problems De-committing, it's just as easy to re-commit.
All he has to say is that he was a little bit hasty leaving us. He could say he re-committed after serious thought on the subject.
It's hard for some people to admit that they made a mistake.
The mistake was committing in the first place. Four paid for trips to anywhere in the United States? No telling what else amenities while you’re on them?

Take the trips, then come home to Alabama.

When the knives come in in the offseason they are sharp. I thank we are all sick of the transfers and coaching changes but its part of the game I dont miss. Just another reason Bama is Bama. 2 generational coaches and 12 N/C you cant make that stuff up...

I'd be honored to work for the University.......for competitive compensation of course.

Agreed - not talking about any specific player, but if you commit then you stop shopping. If you keep shopping, you are not committed.

When I last changed jobs, I agreed to accept an offer from my next employer. When I told my current employer that I was leaving, we talked about the new position. They asked if they could make a counter offer to keep me. I immediately thanked them and told them that I had already given my word so would be leaving. I was not legally obligated to either company, but I had given my word. I had made a commitment. My word - my honor - have value, at least to me.

I think in the past players would commit on big recruiting weekends in part of the peer pressure, the coaches telling them that if you commit now you have a spot but if you wait then someone else might take your spot. I think a lot of players commuted based on these 2 factors in the past. I think every player should take all 4 trips. I would suggest to them take a trip to at least 2 different parts of the US. You never know you might be a West Coast player but if you only pick to visit all SEC because you live in the south then you aren’t really going out to see what all is out there. If you live in the south take some unofficials to some of the ones you aren’t quite as high on.

At the risk of stating the obvious, the term and process of " commitment" doesn`t apparently mean the same for everyone or for our current times in general. Used to be a handshake was all you needed.

Yes, that is exactly what I meant by coach on the field and great leader. He may blossom and become a starter for us, or he may be a third string guy who busts his tail and always does things right.

Hope Sark gets the same amount of production out of the current Bama transfers as he did with the last WR an TE that he got to transfer from Bama.
I understand the frustration, but if not Sark they would have transferred to somewhere else. I have no problem with Sark or Lane for that matter. Now Kirby… the way he left out about taking pics of the recruiting board he can kick rocks.

Back in the dark ages I went from 5'7" to 6'3" in 4 years.
I also went from 150 to 200 lbs.
(I did a lot of Eating and Drinking)
One of my older brothers went to UA at 5'3" and grew to 5'7" his freshman year and put on 30 lb. Of course, he was only 16. :) One of my SILs had an even more dramatic spurt in her freshman year at OM...

Yeah, I had the same thing in mind as you. He may not be the 1st or even 2nd string guy but will highly contribute to helping others learn the defense.

he started 3 games this season, so, yep, he was a backup for the most part.

Under Saban, we got so used to having only a handful of transfers each year and those guys were expected to be starters from day one. Saban even said as much on multiple occasions.

With the significant loss of players transferring, we aren't just bringing in starters, we are bringing in guys that are second and maybe even third team. Hopefully, we get back to where we can be more selective with who we portal in, but right now we need more than instant starters.

let's be honest, Bama fans only like Sark because he was a really good OC during his time at the Capstone. before that, he was pretty unsuccessful everywhere else. with his average results as a HC and drinking issues, he was NOT in demand and his name was not attached to anything of significance. it was coach Saban who resurrected his waning career and made him a hot commodity. so far, his short stint in Texas, he was able to take their program to the Playoffs for the first time. But they're not paying top money just to make the Playoffs. until he wins a championship for the Longhorns, his seat will always be warm no matter what they in public. and now that they have join the SEC, wining has become more challenging.
