well, the other plan could have been, in a perfect world, that Saban tells Byrne that he's going to retire now. They don't make it public, but Byrne starts talking to trusted agents and gets things lined up with the coach we want and keep it pretty quiet and have contracts ready to be executed. Wait 2 weeks. Classes start and kids are enrolled and it's at least a little harder to leave easily. Contracts sighted. Make announcement to the team, that Saban is retiring and here's your new head coach, then announce to world. Only risk that way would be possibly losing some new assistants.

Unlikely I know, but possible...

Idk. Everything gets leaked. As soon as you start talking to people outside of your organization it is too easy for info to leak.

I would love to play them and have our offense absolutely torch him and their defense and then have a reporter ask him postgame "Caleb, do you have any regrets about transferring from Alabama?"
I don't know all that went on with that situation, but my impression is that Caleb would not have left if not for his father. But in either case, I try to be "understanding" in my attitude towards those who left, while appreciating those who remained even more.

Oh, it's nothing personal, but more of a competitive/competitor type of thing. I don't wish any ill will toward him or his dad at all. But if/when we play them I want to beat the brakes off of them and gash their defense to the point of embarrassing.

I would be absolutely shocked if his decision wasn't ultimately based upon $$$, regardless of what he or anyone else says.

Impossible I know, but possible...

FIFY

In today's world it is impossible to keep something like that quiet...

Not only in the realm of possibility but it is quite probable if we get the opportunity to face them. At least, that is true from where I am sitting.

Oh, it’s personal. I’m sure he was taken care of here at Alabama. He’s a mercenary, for the rest of his life his “loyalty” and “commitment” can be bought.

Says a lot about him.

I'm not going to judge a 20ish year old kid for transferring when he was originally recruited by the GOAT coach who also personally coached his position group. I don't think that means he has a character flaw.

That said, I do hope we get a chance to play and beat Ohio State while he's there.

Well if that's the case then OSU should be busted like UT is getting busted because that's clearly inducement to go to their school. Hopefully someone is reporting it.

Not the same. The teams including Tenn who are getting busted is for offering $ to kids to get them to sign with their school. When you enter the portal any team can offer any player a NIL offer.

If a player has received improper inducements from a SCHOOL, and accepted them, the school should get fried and the player should be declared ineligible.

Wonder if CNS has enough left in the tank to take on the task of fixing the NCAA.
Based on recent social media pics of him I think that would interfere with his new golf schedule. 😁
