But it's not like we were just paying Downs pennies. Yeah, if someone offers you a $2M pay raise, or even a $1M raise, you gotta consider it. But I highly doubt it was that much more, maybe 500k more. To me, that's not enough to make a decision based solely on money. He was likely already making $1M+. Plus, most of these guys have insurance in case of injury, so they're still gonna get paid again, even if they get hurt. How much money do you realistically need? I could live very comfortably for years on $1M, but that's not what most of these players do. They end up buying expensive cars that they don't even need, or they give it away to any friend or family member with their hand out, and then they go ask for more money
I’m not sure about your situation, but 1 million doesn’t go that far today. I don’t blame any kid for trying to get as much as they can in this system.

I typically don't spend 100k in a year, and while my spending would inevitably go up if I had that kind of money, I could realistically make that last 5 or 6 years, and still live a pretty luxurious life, because most of the things I want aren't very expensive. They get all this money and the first thing they do is spend 200k on a car. They don't even have to pay for their school, or even housing in many cases, and yet somehow we think they need to be paid more. I think teaching these kids how to spend their money responsibly, would go a lot further than just directing them to chase more money.

400 doesn’t buy a house anywhere but nowhere (no offense)
First of all, being where everyone else wants to be is part of the reason people are so broke.

Second, paying more money to be around the freak show that is society truly baffles my mind. It’s not like we’re all out here using the same party line to communicate.

Bump it to 7, it doesn’t matter. You put $200k plus in the right place and you can have a routine job and live just fine. The idea you can’t make it with one million extra dollars is crazy

That’s not what he is saying. Also people don’t want to live “just fine” I know I want to excel and set my family up for life. Travel and create great memories experiencing the world with them. Obviously that means smart decisions and not wasting money on junk.

Not having to drive an hour to work and saving time is definitely worth money as time is the most valuable asset. This means living closer to cities/towns. But different things for different people.

1mil isn’t nothing but it’s not what people think it is, especially if you have kids.

now this isn’t what this thread is for and belongs on the non sports.

So I guess we still don't have a PG?

:D
I would love to see us add a major player at PG but I do think we underestimate Holloway's ability to run point. With a full off season to work on his game he has the quickness and smart's to be an above average PG. It would obviously be a new role for him but one that I feel he could be exceptional at.

Maybe...but he is a sharp-shooter-assasin when he can catch and shoot. Not sure he'd be as good from 3 running point. I'm trying not to compare what he did at AU running point, but it's part of his playing history. Maybe he's turned the corner, but he was running point there and struggled.

However, the real issue with him his he's probably not even 6 feet tall. He simply can't get to the rim and finish at that size. Plus, he's never demonstrated he can distribute off the dribble. Granted, Sears was a wizard passer among the trees, so maybe I'm comparing Holloway with him too much.

I try not to look at anything he did when at AU to project where he is or where he is going as a player. His confidence was abysmal while there and quite frankly he played like many freshman do. I'm not a Pearl fan but I can recognize that he is a great evaluator of talent. If CBP thought he had the tools to play point than he probably does and at a high level. His height is definitely not ideal but we are also talking about playing point and not center or PF. AH seems like the type of kid from what I have gathered that you would let date your daughter. I think he would embrace whatever role CNO asked him to do. Whether or not we bring in a stud PG this coming offseason, I think we will see AH in that role quite a bit this coming season.

If CNO rolls with him as our #1 PG, I hope you are correct!

He had more TO and less ast for us than barn. Could he be a decent point, yes, is he good enough size And physicality wise to have a championship team at this point not close. I don’t think he can be a championship level team leading guy that we need to win the sec much less the national. He would have to turn into Steph curry lol he is a good player and very good as an off ball role but as the facilitator I think the team would struggle.

My concern too, especially for what CNO needs his PG to do.

We're not going to be a championship contender every year. We should still be quite good, though. This coming year was always going to be a bit of a rebuilding year when we went all in on 2024-2025. After the injuries and medical redshirts, it started to look like we might still be able to field another pretty deep roster if we got the best case scenario again on player retention, but the portal had other plans. With any luck, that settlement will be approved by next off-season, and that should curb a lot of this pay for play nonsense, or at least I've heard it's expected to.

That would be a really good get.
Another player we're supposedly looking at:

Donovan “Puff” Johnson is in the transfer portal again after stops at Penn State nad North Carolina. The 23-year-old is a former four-star recruit out of Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix, Arizona.

He’s in the transfer portal for the second time in two years, and he has one year of eligibility left. Last season, he averaged 10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting a career-best 54.3% from the field.
