Trump Attacks Iran, II

When it appeared they were about to lose, the German SS got mean (actually, extra mean, because the SS were mean on a good day). In the Middle East, when it appears a party is about to lose, they jump ship. This helped us in December 2001. It hurts us in July 2021.
At some point, the Basij are not going to want to go down with the ship and they will jump. You just have to get the ball rolling.
One problem is that they already have so much innocent blood on their hands, can they even contemplate jumping ship, without endangering their own lives? It's not widely known, but the last battle of WWII was the US and Wehrmacht fighting side by side against the SS, to keep the SS from taking Itter castle in Austria and murdering the, mostly French, diplomats and government officials imprisoned there...

Now, Trump says no one thought Iran would broaden the war by attacking our allies in the region. How come I knew it? Oh, I see more news than just Fox. There is not one word of truth in the man. Oh, he also said they couldn't close the Strait of Hormuz, something else widely predicted. This whole affair was so screwed up, it makes W's plans (like being welcomed as liberators) look well-thought out...

At a certain point, it becomes a matter of fleeing identification as a member of the toppled regime, going to ground and escaping.
Nazis tried, some successfully, making it to Spain or Argentina.
Members of the security apparatus of a collapsing regime, once they believe collapse is likely, will probably take off their uniform, burn any ID, go to someplace where nobody knows them and try to blend in.

All that's left now is to leave hundred's of millions of dollars in weapons laying for the Iranians to gather up on the ground...

I'm not sure Werner von Braun's voyage to America after the war was voluntary.
Maybe not voluntary but he ordered his team to wait for the Americans rather than Russians to ensure his technical expertise would be traded for freedom. In a round about way he made a choice.

BREAKING: UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan issue a joint statement expressing their “readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts” to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, while welcoming countries undertaking preparations, coordinating strategic petroleum reserve (SPR) releases, and exploring ways to boost output.

A little insider tidbit - I've mentioned before that I lived for about a decade next to a member of the von Braun team (yes, a former Nazi). It seems that the first interpreters we sent to talk to them were Jewish kids from the NYC area who spoke German with a strong Yiddish accent. Von Braun refused to surrender. Now, we had kids from all over the country who spoke German. I had a cross-street neighbor from Michigan who learned to speak English in the first grade. Figuring out what was wrong, they sent a bunch of German-speakers with no Yiddish accent and the Germans surrendered to them. As Helmut put it to me - "If you were German, would you have surrendered to Jews?" Contrary to the polite, broadly-spread fiction, the existence of the camps was widely known. The wife of the man mentioned above told me that children were threatened with "You'd better be good or you'll go up the chimneys." At the start of the Six Day War, Helmut came running over with a newspaper and exclaiming "Look at that! Stark (strong) as any Storm Troopers." (He sometimes broke into German when excited.) Like other Germans his age, he'd been raised on propaganda that Jews were all cowardly and was therefore amazed at their military ability. Years later, Helmut had a pressing legal matter and I was about to leave town. I arranged for my (Jewish) law partner to meet with him. Helmut balked, saying "The Germans have done so much to the Jews." Nevertheless, he did go on and meet with my partner. It must have been a shock for Helmut, because my partner was 6'4" and Helmut was all of 5'7"... :)

Q: "Why didn't you tell U.S. allies…about the war before attacking Iran?"

President Trump: "We wanted surprise. Who knows better about surprise than Japan? Why didn't you tell me about Pearl Harbor?"
You know, for all his faults (and he has a metric ton of them) Trump really is a funny guy sometimes.
