Trump Attacks Iran, III

We blew the Hell out of Iraq and Afghanistan, lost nearly 8000 servicemen and servicewomen in the process, countless others maimed. Not to mention the tens of thousands killed and maimed in collateral damage.

Where did it get us. I'm not arguing with you, but I'm just making the point that we can blow up a lot of stuff, and yet not get very much in return. We didnt' learn that in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan.....and now in Iran.
And the president's daily "briefing" consists of the biggest booms of the day...

It’s a pushback from those who are framing this war as if Iran is somehow winning, or that it’s a draw.

1 death a tragedy… a million a statistic. 5 million Wehrmacht died compared to 11 million Russian citizens. Yet the hammer and sickle still rose high over the burning ruins of Berlin.

Wars are not won by winning battles or inflicting casualties. They are won by having the ability to force the other side to give up through political and economic pressure. America has yet to come anywhere close to achieving that here. Yet for the second time in this war, Trump has backed off on threats against Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. I don’t see how negotiating on tolls or control over the Strait where previously there were none is seen as America winning the war. Again I ask the same question I’ve been asking for weeks… What are our goals here?

This is what Rubio has been saying for weeks:

“Here are the clear objectives of the current military operation. You must take note of them”:

1. Destruction of Iran's military air forces;

2. Destruction of their naval fleet;

3. Sharp reduction of their missile launch capabilities;

4. Destruction of their drone and rocket manufacturing plants;

5. They must never be able to acquire nuclear weapons.

Prescient

I'd like to claim the ability to tell the future as well as I can remember the past, but I'm not a prophet (nor the son of a prophet).

I've just watched this clown over and over for over four decades now, and it's the same template every time. Announce the "other side" has agreed to something they didn't and use "them breaking their oath" as an excuse to do whatever you want.

Like when he went on "NFL Today" (10/23/1983) and claimed Don Shula was a done deal to come coach his USFL team except maybe for a little hangup on the contract - the hangup being Shula wanting a condo in Trump Tower as part of his contract.

None of it was true.

You want to know what else is also true that nobody wants to talk about?

No, there aren't REALLY a bunch of people who "regret their vote" from 2024, either, who then go on camera and tell people about it. People think we don't see this EVERY ELECTION in the TV age and especially the social media age.

How does anyone ACTUALLY KNOW these people "voted for Candidate X"?
The vote is by secret ballot - anyone can claim this and stir up a propaganda war.

And here's the rub: most people who are actually "ashamed" of something they "regret" don't get on camera and tell it to the whole damn world, either.

Their "regret" ONLY MATTERS if they would now vote for the opponent, and most wouldn't.

They both sent troops - if the draft were in effect it wouldn't matter who had started it.

The point isn't that hard to get, unless you're simply trying to be obtuse. I'm not sening my kiddos to die in any war that's not about defending the US, the post I quoted seemed fine with it as long as it wasn't for trump.
It always matters who started it, and why.

You’re correct, which is why I’ve always LMAO at Democrats (John Kerry did this) calling Vietnam “Nixon’s War.”

Now let me grab an early beer and watch the predictable attempts at “but Nixon” to miss the entire point.

Btw - for the next person intending to go the “but bankruptcy is a business strategy” route…..give me the names of all the SUCCESSFUL businessman with SIX bankruptcies.

A lot of the daring entrepreneurs had one, usually personal, which is always the carefully worded defense of Trump.

Who had six?
Name even one.

Rockefeller?
Carnegie?

I hear Wal-Mart’s “successful business” is based on filing bankruptcy an average of once every 4 years (between 1991 and 2014).
Obvious blue font on this last.

Okay but who is the leader of the military and what is he saying?

Another point is none of those objectives have long term effects that prevent them from obtaining or rebuilding them. If those are truly our objectives then we have morons in charge because without regime change none of those are lasting effects.

Finally, why shouldn’t Iran be allowed to defend themselves? You can get me on board about the nuclear weapons but why shouldn’t they have a navy and ballistic missiles. Israel and United States are proving every reason of why they should. And on that note who is constantly taking their neighbors land, starting fights,and hiding behind the fact that they are in fear of being a religious minority in a sea of people who hate them? Israel or Iran? I think maybe we should start looking at the threat Israel poses for the Middle East as well because it starts to look like the religious nuts around Bibi are more of a threat to the peace in the ME than Iran.

If these objectives have been achieved, then why is Iran still in control of the Strait and making money now on the pass through traffic?

I'm not arguing they've been achieved. I'm simply answering the question: Rubio has been listing these same objectives since the beginning. These are the stated goals. I'm not sure the US really cares about the SoH, hence the insistence that the EU step up and work to open it, as they're far more dependent on it.

I'm not here to defend the administration's stated goals. I simply answered you as you said you keep asking, yet Rubio has been listing these as goals for weeks and weeks now.

I don't know enough about what's actually happening or how the strategy is defined to act like I know the answers to your questions. My posts in these threads have almost completely been sharing information I find on the web. I'll leave the determination as to whether things are working as planned to those who know more about it than I.
