Trump's Policies XI

All these countries could get him off their backs by agreeing to incorporate his name in the name of their country... :)

In my head is a vision of the scene in the first "Superman" movie where Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) loses his mind when Ned Beatty names a little place "Otisburg." In this case, Rubio is Otis and wants to rename Cuba something like "Rubio." Trump fires him and says the new name of Cuba will be Trump-ruba.

Between airstrikes and drones (if the head is truly decapitated) my guess is those guys will largely disappear.
I'm sorry, but I find that opinion not just to be optimistic, but wildly optimistic. Those guys are organized, armed and have been in power for 45 years. Why on earth should they just dissolve? Where has that happened? Libya is a more likely result...

You don't recall him flying a fighter jet onto a carrier with a "Mission Accomplished" banner that became a point of mockery when Iraq went South?

(Not being critical, it's just that was one of those "yeah, I recall that" moments from 2003).
FWIW, from the reports I heard, he was a passenger in a flight suit but to the original point, yes he had been a fighter pilot in the guard.

Judge says Kari Lake’s tenure atop US media agency was improper, voids actions as ‘acting CEO’

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth concluded that her ascension was an illegal end-run around the Senate’s advice and consent role.

---

Lamberth said any actions Lake took in that four-month timeframe must be treated as “void,” including an Aug. 29 reduction in USAGM’s workforce. Lamberth also invalidated actions Lake took when the agency’s previous acting CEO, Victor Morales, delegated nearly the entirety of his responsibilities to her, concluding that this was also an illegal end-run around the Senate’s advice and consent role.

Not a war guru but I'm assuming the thought is knock out the big power weapons and let the people overwhelm the remainder of the government.

It never works that way. In fact it usually has the opposite effect. Power tends to centralize behind the regime even more.

I think Americans get the idea that bombing is more humane over troops invading because we have never experienced it. But read primary sources before the Darkest hour speech and primary sources after the London bombings began. Churchill wasn’t that popular until London started experiencing air raids. There was substantial pressure in Britain after France had fallen to make a deal with Hitler to prevent further escalation. However that all changed once they started bombing British cities.

Air raids have a psychological effect more than any ground invasion. And they rarely work for the people doing the bombing in terms of pushing for regime change. We have found that out numerous times but we keep doing it.

How long did France and the US spend in Vietnam trying to achieve that goal. Not to mention our latest wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our politicians seem to never learn. Of course Trump has never bothered to understand anything about history.

Even in a dictatorship, this is still these people's home. No one wants their home bombed to smithereens. Agree the incessant bombing galvanizes those you are trying to liberate against you.

Accidentally bomb a school and you give away all pretense of why you are doing this. They are holding their heads is it us they are after? I thought they were just going to get rid of the goons?

Mary Bruce, ABC:
I asked Trump if witnessing the dignified transfers of six Americans killed in this war gave him any pause about this operation, he told me “not at all” and that all of the families told him “please, win this for my child.”

On the economic fallout of the war with Iran and rising gas prices, President Trump tells me “I think it’s fine. It’s a little glitch. We had to take this detour. I knew exactly what was going to happen with the detour.”

Asked about the war and if he’s worried about the risk here at home, President Trump tells me “I’m not worried about anything.”

In a phone call Trump tells me “everything is on the table” when asked if he would consider sending in special forces to seize Iran’s nuclear stockpile.
