Check out the Gameday guide on this very topic.

Restaurants | TideFans.com | By the Fans, For the Fans.

A couple of the entries are out of date. Sweet Home Food Bar has closed and has been replaced by an Italian restaurant called Sugo. Sugo is looking to compete with DePalma's. It's new, but on the way to that goal. Still working on ironing out internal operations.

Glory Bound on The Strip is closed. Replaced with something, but I'm not sure what.

If you don't already have a reservation, you can forget about either Evangeline's or River. For this weekend, they've both been booked solid for over 6 months. I doubt they’re even accepting additions to the waiting list.

At other places, expect to either eat early or wait an hour or more.

Sugo is very good. And conveniently located adjacent to Black Warrior Brewing. I'd recommend Urban Bar and Kitchen, SoCal Cantina, Avenue Pub, Decades Pub and Grub (doesn't look like much but their food is amazing). Dillard's Chophouse is a great white tablecloth option.

If you want to booze it up a little, I'll be at Loosa Brews and Copper Top after I set up the tailgate Friday evening!

Too bad about Sweet Home. I had a real nice brunch there and wanted to go back.

My vote is always for Avenue Pub though. I just have incredible luck there every time with food, drinks and service. Thai nachos and a salty dog. Chase it with a Good People IPA. Yum!

UBK has been a good fallback option for me lately. Nice place.

I've quit Session and Catch 22 and opted for Nocturnal for late night cocktails. The goth atmosphere is a lot of fun and the staff is super friendly.

What about the big bar upstairs from the Half Shell? Browns? We went there and they were kind of soft open. Seemed like it had great potential though.

Well, they closed the Bojangles in Northport so I’m not much help on this thread.

I"ll throw a few Northport places out there:

They put a Lost Pizza Co. where Mr. Bill's used to be.

We like Brick and Spoon for breakfast, it's on the 359 side of University I believe.

We go to church with the owner of Hoo's Q, intersection of Watermelon Road and McFarland (82). I really love their bacon wrapped chicken and white BBQ sauce.

We ain't fancy.

I haven't been up there yet, but Cocktail Connection - above SoCal Cantina, entrance behind the Pepsi machine door - is pretty fun.

I'm not a huge fan of Nocturnal as a place to go and have a beer. It's ok in small doses. Session is still pretty good. Catch 22 is overrated, in my opinion. So is Grey Lady.

Being a local, I tend to stick to the places locals hang out. And I don't usually stay out too late because the college kids usually show up at around 11:00. That said, Rhythm and Brews usually has a good band playing, as does the aforementioned Copper Top. Same owners, so they swap bands a lot. Rhythm just seems to cater to a younger crowd. 1831 is getting better. They hired my favorite bartender.

Too bad about Sweet Home Bar. It’s always a hassle getting into DePalma’s, so I can see why someone would try to compete.

We do love Cocktail Connection.

Brick and Spoon is a good breakfast option.
